Addiction is a brain condition seen through a compulsive use of substance regardless of the negative implications and consequences. It is referred to as behavior that a person finds challenging to quit There are many forms of addiction that affect people in their life. Some of include masturbation and gambling. However, alcohol and drug abuse are among the challenging addictions that people suffer from in their lives. Abuse of drugs and alcohol affects all levels of society. The implications of addiction are many, including children's school drop-out and an increase in the number of divorces (Thomas, 2020). Some factors such as age put certain individuals in the community at a higher risk of alcohol and drug abuse than others. The young generation is at risk of suffering from alcoholism and drug addiction than the older people. Despite the many effective solutions to addiction such as rehabilitation, there is a need to focus more of therapeutic solution that will make the person want to quite the behaviour personally.

Objective

The investigation primary objective is to identify a possible solution that can be effective and efficient in solving the issue of addiction. It is possible to realize a good solution if the cause of the addiction is identified such as peer pressure. The main drink in most of the weddings and celebrations is alcohol. At the moment, several changes have taken place mainly after the creation of the Dram Shop Act. The act aims and limiting the amount of liquor that an individual can consume (Alonso and Faley, 2020). The bartenders are expected to limit the amount of alcohol that a person consumes if they are intoxicated. Otherwise, they will pay for the damages caused by the drunken individual to a third party.

More so, it will be possible to have an effective solution if the matters seriousness is highlighted. Addiction is serious in the community and needs to be addressed with urgency because of the increasing number of victims. According to Hoskins (2019), alcoholism is the most common addiction in Canada. A total of 18% of the Canadian population have an encounter with alcohol addiction problems as of the 2017 year (Hoskins, 2019). The most affected population is between the ages of 18 and 34 years. The outcomes show that a larger portion of the community is being affected by addiction, especially alcohol and drug abuse.

Methods

Several methods have been proven to be effective when dealing with addiction. Motivational incentives and rewards are some of the methods. In the method, the main aim of to have a motivation that will make a person quit the behavior. For instance, an addict can be rewarded for completing a drug screening test. The method's main aim is to replace the biological reward that a person gets from consuming the substance with a reward for having desirable behaviors. Some are in a position to use the strategy on themselves while others require external assistance. The reward can be in different forms, such as benefits, money, or privileges. Monetary rewards have been proven to be more effective, especially when trying to quit alcohol and drug use addiction.

Another method is through the creation of network support. Most people fail to deal with the addiction issue since they are alone. Individual and group counseling can be effective strategies as they provide support through the various stages of recovery. Most addicts find it easy to attend support groups as they feel the support of other members who are equally going through the same challenge. Within an addict's family, therapy can be the most effective and efficient method. The method's main focus is to foster a support structure that will help the addicts overcome the behavior. Some people make decisions such as joining a therapeutic community or home where people are struggling with the same addiction to overcome the issue together. Qualitative research methods were used in the study. In the method there is online research through the use of key words such as rehabilitation. Several studies are identified from the method and a comparison is made on the outcomes.

Results

The outcomes indicate that there is a need to focus more on policy issues. An addiction like that of alcohol and drug abuse causes problems for the entire society. The health care system, criminal justice, and the economy are all affected by the crisis. Policies in the United States aim at controlling the production and distribution of illegal drugs. In the past, the main focus of alcohol and substance abuse was on preventing the actions. However, changes have taken place, and the concern is on responsible drinking. A total of 24% of men account for the addict’s population in Canada while the remaining 15% accounts for women (Hoskins, 2019). Thus most, of the policies need to be focusing on the rehabilitation of the affected as a solution. However, the critical challenge to the method is the cost of operation. The national government has resources worth $1.7 billion to facilitate programs that will rehabilitate the affected (American Addiction Centers, 2019). But the number of individuals that need help are too many, and the amount is not sufficient. Thus, policies to curb alcohol and drug addiction in most counties are in place and effective. Still, there is a lack of resources from the national government to facilitate and implement the policies.

Best Solution for Addressing Addiction

A good suggestion is to have a focused implementation play. The solution aims at identifying the population that is at high risk and implementing a solution that will be specific. For instance, alcohol and drug use addiction are common among those in high school and college. Thus, the implementation of solutions should specifically target them. There is a need to create awareness' in school. The youth need to understand the danger that they are putting themselves in. Some alcohol and drug users are aware of the risks, but it is because of their problems in life that make them get into substance abuse. A strategic solution will be to position counselors in each school to address some of the personal issues that the students are facing before it is too late (Sinba and Aman, 2017). The strategies aim to attack the problem before the impact is felt.

I believe the solution will be most effective as it will specifically address the target population. Since addiction is an acquired behavior, it can be changed if the person decided to work on themselves. Some have gone to rehabilitation centers and failed to quit the addiction problem. Thus, the person must be willing to change for the solution to be effective. Hence, the solution is the best as it will make the person realize the risk they are facing and ignite a person's decision to acquire change.

Also, it is essential to have standardization of prices in some of the rehabilitation centers. The aim is to assist those affected in the community and not to make profits. Since the rehabilitation facilities equally need to run, the standardization should be done based on the type of services and individual needs and the number of days they will spend in the facility. Standardization of the price means having a shared cost. The family or supports of the affected individual will pay a portion of the cost, and the insurance cover will take care of the rest. There will be an increase in the number of people seeking services and success to curb the problem. Also, it is essential to focus on the support system of the affected person. The support system includes the close family members and friends that can hasten the recovery process. The centres’ activities need to focus on reintegrating the person back into society as a changed individual.

The main advantage of the solution is the high success rate. According to the American Addiction Center, there is an 80% success rate among those attending rehabilitation facilities (Thomas, 2020). Thus, the solution is working for most addicts as they receive all the support that they need to form the centers. One of the main disadvantages of the proposed solution is the cost of treatment. The rehabilitations are very costly, and to the low-income earners, they are not affordable. The private sector, such as the insurance companies that offer medical coverage to the people, has a role in dealing with the disadvantage. The insurance companies need to extend their medical coverage to have rehabilitation services. In the community, there is inpatient rehabilitation care. The insurance coverage is only for the inpatient rehabilitation facility or unit (Medicare.gov, n.p). Some of the components of the cover include acute care rehabilitation care and IRF. There is no alcohol and substance abuse coverage in medical care. That poses a significant disadvantage for those who will afford to seek rehabilitation services.

Conclusion

A key challenge to the addiction is behavior change. Alcohol and substance abuse are a behavior that people learn from others. If the individual is unwilling to change the friends or the action source, then the effort at the rehabilitation centers will be irrelevant. Despite the standardization of the services, their process might still be costly because of the medicines. The insurance companies might be willing to cater to the treatment, but the medication will be the individual's responsibility. Hence, there is a need to have communal support to make the process easy and effective for the addicts. The availability of resources might still be challenging as the rehabilitation centers building might take time in areas where there is scarcity of finances. In the future, there will be challenges on how best to handle the situation, and the number of victims keeps increasing. Action needs to be taken at the moment to mitigate the risk in the future. However, with proper measure and implementation strategies there will be a decrease in the number of victims in future. There will be the creation of an alcohol-free generation if some of the policies are successful. It might be challenging to stop the youths from alcohol and substance abuse, but it is possible to create a responsibly drinking society.
