There are several similarities between Bloom by Radiohead and Tomorrow Never Knows by the Beatles. For example, the song Tomorrow Never Knows has repeating drum beats which can also be noted in the song Bloom albeit this one is accompanied by some elements of repeating piano loop. Similarly, it is evident that both songs have doubled vocals. This is conspicuous in the song Tomorrow Never Knows where there are vocal modulations accompanied by guitar and orchestral tape loops such as those noted from around 4: 25 (Teves, 2008). This results in chords that revolve around C major that restricts excessive variations of the music’s harmony. As a result of restricting the chords used to make both songs, the harmony of the songs remains static. Essentially, a minor chord arrangement results into submergence of consciousness into other emotional states.

In spite of the many similarities identified between the two songs, they have some differences. In the song Tomorrow Never Knows, there is a harmonic musical structure that can be associated with Indian music (Teves, 2008). On the other hand, Bloom is characterized by instrumental structure especially from 2:20 where the music somehow drifts from the original jazz-like musical structure. The Bloom song was also characterized by multiple notes that resulted in continuous bass in the song that picks up from around 2:50 (Mai88Ale, 2011). Then again, the song Tomorrow Never Knows obtains its bass from a bass guitar that is backed with of tambura and a sitar drone. Personally, I think that the two songs took advantage of the singers’ vocals that blended well with the chosen instruments. However, their differences are brought about by the ability to control acoustic levels at particular instances of the songs.
