The article about how breaking up is hard to do by Gareth Loken is a well-thought-out article that tries to explain the intricacies of breaking up. It tries to show why breaking up might be necessary under certain circumstances and, it also gives out a well-laid plan on how to successfully execute a breakup. Gareth Loken teaches how to evaluate whether a particular relationship is beneficial or toxic to an individual and if it needs to be broken off or maintained. In his own words, he writes that before you take a step of breaking up with somebody, you have to make an informed decision that you want out of the relationship. Your final choice has to get executed for the right reasons. He goes ahead to give an example of a situation where individuals are in a sad or abusive relationship where they keep arguing and fighting each other over petty issues. It is up to those two individuals to carefully weigh out their options and decide whether to call it quits. When you can no longer tolerate being around one another, the only logical thing is to separate and give each other some space.

An individual in a relationship is indeed best suited to know whether the relationship is right or wrong. However pressed you may feel to end a relationship, you must be sure that you will not make a decision that you will later regret. Gareth Loken insists on the importance of making a decision when you are in a clear state of mind. This theory is real and applicable in a practical sense because you hurriedly rush into a decision often when you are feeling upset, only to regret later after gaining calmness. Decisions about calling off things should be made wisely and not when you are emotional. The author gives clear guidelines of the breakup process, which are applicable in real life. Once you decide to end things, the next step is discussing the breakup with your partner. However, this is the most difficult conversation an individual can ever have. One has to maintain a mature approach to the breakup conversation by avoiding the blame game. The goal of breaking up is to leave with your soul and spirit intact and move on with your life. Finally, it is critical to take some time away from your ex and gain some space for yourself to allow the healing process to continue.
