From the synopsis on ‘Cochlear Function’, a reader is able to have a mental picture of the cochlear and how it functions. However, there are points that have been clearly put across while some cannot be understood well. The author has clearly explained the anatomy of the cochlea. This is one of the important areas that a person needs to read and understand for the purpose of knowing how it functions. The summary gives a picture of the cochlea. The other important point covered is the transmission of waves and how an individual gets to hear and differentiate sounds. The author starts off the synopsis by giving a brief summary in a concise way. It has been explained in the simplest way possible and any person will understand what is being talked about.
There are some points that were not covered adequately in the synopsis. The auditory transduction is a major topic that the author needed to explain clear. On the contrary, the author mentioned it and then went deeper in to taking about the anatomy of the cochlea. Anatomy is important but I believe the author should have given a brief discussion on the auditory transduction before embarking on explaining the anatomy and how it works. The other important that the author mentioned in brief but was not clear was the receptor potentials and the basolateral membrane. The author would have expounded on the discussion for further understanding.

It requires keenness and analysis of the article to be able to pull out such a synopsis based on the topics discussed in the book. I would give 7 out of 10. The grade is above average because the author gave the discussion in an understandable manner. A reader is able to connect one point to the other and hence able to figure out what the author was talking about.
