Counsellors are faced with crisis situations on almost a daily basis. A crisis may occur at the individual or societal level. The manner of the response to the crisis and measures taken to deal with the crisis are both critical in managing it. Counsellors are required to have the skills and knowledge to deal with any crisis related to their job. They are supposed to maintain ethical standards while intervening in situations of crisis.
The ASCA requires counsellors to be responsible to for themselves. They are needed to maintain membership in the school counsellors professional organizations in orders to stay up to date on matters concerning their profession. They should maintain competence by utilizing current interventions (ASCA, 2016). Concerning response to the issue of some schools not providing crisis intervention courses and low enrollment in crisis intervention courses, counselling trainers should make it mandatory for counsellors to complete courses on crisis intervention and responses. Since a majority of respondents indicated that they encountered crisis situations in the field, it is necessary that have skills in crisis response. The ASCA code requiring counsellors to maintain membership to the school counsellor professional organization will enable them to organize workshops as well as advice trainers on the need for every counsellor to have skills on crisis response and intervention.

The ACA ethical code requires counsellors to conduct research that is aligned with ethical principles, host institution regulations and scientific standards of governing research (ACA, 2017) . Through research, the counsellors will be able to gather information on ethical methods of crisis intervention and response. The study will also shade more light on the dangers of counsellors lacking knowledge and skills in crisis response. This way, they will be able to pass the research findings and recommendations to student counsellors during workshops. The research will also give suggestions to trainers on the importance of crisis response.
