Cognitive dissonance depicts the state of conflict or tension that occurs when two parties, individuals or groups hold different opinions or ideologies. Additionally, the ideas are considered as psychologically inconsistent and unpleasant which results in cognitive discomfort rather than creating solutions. Important to note is that dissonance theory brings parties into conflict; however, this the contrary of the assonance theory that primarily focuses on consensus (Aronson, 2008).
Furthermore, Cognitive dissonance is equated to an example of the contemporary warfare that exists between Syria and the ISIS terrorist group. Syria fights to finish the stop and end the Islamic terrorist group, which has destroyed the lives of a multitude of people and property. Conversely, the ISIS groups fight back on the firm basis of setting up an Islamic nation and revenge to Syrians for killing them. The case depicts cognitive dissonance where two groups hold different ideas and cannot come into census (Aronson, 2008). The results are unpleasant with discomfort to the subjects who do not find a solution in the opinions of the two groups.

Another theory that could explain this behavior is the self-perception theory. This theory portrays how people pursue their developed attitudes without experience. The solution that emanates from this theory is personal based, and the other party develops a different solution based on the attitudes, which can be ambiguous (Aronson, 2008). In light of this, my theory provides a better case since it demonstrates perfect descriptions of the conflicting individual, for instance, the Syria – ISIS war. In this case, Syria’s opinions or idea is to end the ISIS while ISIS terrorists stand firm to establish an Islamic nation and repay Syria’s attacks. Other theories such as self-perception do not elaborate evident conflict that exists.
