Cognitive therapy plays an integral role in helping individuals to enhance their moods and behavior by improving their reasoning capacity as well as interpreting various occurrences in life. Notably, this type of psychotherapy aids in guiding individuals into thinking more realistically and guides them to adopt coping strategies that help to settle their despair. Cognitive therapy is believed to be a brief treatment that is characterized by long-term effects (Wilkinson, 2013). Thus, it is believed to be a tool that is used to help individuals break the links between problematic circumstances and their typical responses to them. Such reactions may entail depression, fear, and self-damaging characters. 

To solve some of the behavioral predicaments such as anxiety, fear or depression, persons normally seek help by speaking out about their problems or concerns with their trusted family members or friends. In circumstances where these cases become somehow complicated, a counsellor is consulted. Subsequently, these are depicted as the ideal examples of psychotherapies that persons have been exercising for an extended period. Conversely, the advancement of the modern science and major developments in the department of psychology, philosophers have discovered more effective methodologies for psychoanalysis such as the cognitive therapy. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a psychotherapeutic treatment method that entails the use of particular empirically enhanced strategies aimed at transforming undesirable thinking norms and changing behavior. In that, this method enhances the victims to alter irrational and the tendency of being trapped in negative thinking habit.

Therefore, CBT can be applied in treating individuals who have different mental issues. This method is based on the perception of how people think, their emotions as well as their behaviors since they are all linked together. This seems to suggest that our way of thinking influences our character and our emotions. For instance, developing unrealistic and negative perceptions can lead to depression which ends up bringing a lot of complications. Thus, in instances when an individual experiences psychological suffering, the manner in which they view situations tends to become skewed hence the aspect of developing negative effect on the actions they take (Wilkinson, 2013). In other words, Cognitive therapy aids persons to be careful not to make negative elucidations as well as the development of cynical thinking which reinforces misconstrued thinking. CBT provides an ideal opportunity for persons to come up with alternative modes of thinking and behaving thus fighting their psychological distress. 

It is essential to record that this therapy plays a decisive role in altering a patient reasoning process with the objective of addressing psychological problems. It entails the use of a therapeutic method, solving emotional expressions which are characterized by maladaptive acquired responses that can be replaced with healthier ones. Thus, cognitive therapy integrates practices of behavior adjustment into a cognitive reconstructive approach. CBT can be understood as the empirically based modality which involves scientific approaches that can be assessed and verified for its effectiveness. Moreover, it is a way for the client and therapist to combine their efforts in coming up with a solution to the problems that the client have. 

Differences between Ethical Principles and Standards 

Both ethical principles and standards are present in our day to day experiences since they determine our attitudes, personality, and the character of an individual. Ethics can be understood as the external standards that are found in institutions, culture or group on which an individual belongs (Ethical Principles and Standards, 2012). For instance, doctors, policemen and lawyers follow an ethical code set out by their profession irrespective of their preferences or emotions. Therefore, ethical standards and principles are viewed as a social framework or a system that enhances acceptable behavior in the society by helping people to cope with a difficult situation. 

Notably, ethical principles and ethical standards have multiple dissimilarities. In that, Ethical principles can be understood as the ultimate truth or doctrine that acts as the groundwork for a system of reasoning, behavior or a belief. A principle can be used in all aspects of thought and human encounters where outright or underlying truth can be perceived (Ethical Principles and Standards, 2012). This entails politics theory, scientific, religion among others. These are general rules that act as a justification for specific ethical prescriptions and modification of human actions. In that, the ethical principle can be understood as a tool that provides guidance on how things should be done or the foundation for designing a person’s character. 

On the other hand, ethical standards are derived from the human ideologies of right and wrong. Thus a person has the freedom to act the way he or she wants as a free agent. This implies that an individual is free to decide how they live their lives provided that their actions do not adversely influence the lives of others. These assumptions denote that persons have the freedom to exercise the free will of choice or thought. The moral behaviors are designed to promote good deeds, kindness, trust, and fairness. Every person has the freedom to develop his or her standards that are important to their life. Subsequently, ethical standards are used to enhance individuals to understand how they are supposed to behave.
