In most cases in life, people experience challenges when trying to solve a problem. An individual involved may find himself or herself at psychological impasses that may force him or her to stop thinking about the problem and revisit it later. During this time, a person involved feels stuck, frustrated, depressed, and maybe feeling a significant down mood. When we are engaged in an impasse, it would be better to stop and think about it later as this will enable us to change our approach of solving a problem because continuing with usual approaches to problem-solving will not help us to breakthrough. Impasse demands us to improve our ways in which we approach the challenges, change the understanding of the problem, and change the repertoire of ways in which we approach problems.
Sometimes each impasse is an opportunity that needs an individual to look deeper and understand what works and therefore stopping while in such a state gives an individual chance to try a different way that can bring the solution to a problem. In a deepening crisis, our old ways may not be working, and here an impasse means changing our approach. It may demand us to have a break and revisit the problem later using a different approach. It would be good advice to stop thinking about a problem and come back to it then since it will allow one to think of a dynamic approach to a problem at hand.
