When I was about to join college, I was torn between registering for online classes, and attending college physically. At first, I was attracted to the idea of learning online, considering the numerous options available such as attending classes from any place in the world, and the fact that I could schedule the classes any time I wanted. Despite having the afore-mentioned benefits at my disposal, I finally settled for the traditional way of attending college, just as most of my friends were doing. Where I come from, the issue of attending college is viewed as an international decision, and one has to be very careful while selecting the college to join, and the mode of learning. For that reason, I settled for the traditional mode of attending classes. Personally, I preferred physical attendance because I would have a chance to be trained and educated on certain skills, it would be tough for me to drop classes, and I would have a chance to enjoy college life. Indeed, while online classes appeal to most people due to the benefits accrued to it, traditional mode of learning remains a favorite option to most students.
Traditional classes offered me a rare opportunity of getting educated and trained on various skills, unlike online classes where learning is ready made. The physical attendance meant I would have to work hard, and apply creativity to acquire skills. At the same time, I had the opportunity of meeting with my professors physically; listen to them, read their body language, tones, gestures, and mannerisms. Such things would help me to remember and interpret the concept presented in class. At the same time, traditional learning enabled me enjoy spontaneous and natural interactions with my classmates, which in return enriched my learning experience.

With physical attendance, I found it difficult to drop classes, considering each course was based on certain objectives. Additionally, at the back of my mind, I knew I would sit for exams towards the end of the semester, based on what was learnt in class. Considering online classes do not have such strict boundaries, I would have found it easy to abandon classes. Most online classes offer timed and tests and they are mostly multiple choices. The environment is not controlled, and exams are tailored with a mentality that students will access their notes, textbooks and the Internet. The traditional classes did not offer me a chance to access my notes and books during exam, and as such, the option of abandoning classes was not there.
Attending college in person handed me a chance to enjoy and taste life in college. Traditional learning enabled me to participate in most activities associated with campus life such as inter-college games, cultural events, to attending prom nights leading to graduation. I managed to acquire certain life skills such as cleaning my room, cooking, managing time, and living outside my parent’s house. I had a chance of meeting new friends from various parts of the country, and we shared a lot. None of the aforementioned would have been possible, had I enrolled for online classes.
In overall, online classes tend to appeal to most people due to the benefits associated with it, but traditional college attendance remains preferable to most students. With traditional classes, one gets a chance to be educated and trained on various skills. At the same time, students find it hard to drop classes, and the opportunity to enjoy campus life becomes a reality. In contrast, online classes do not allow students to meet the professors physically. In that case, learning skills is difficult. Online students have the liberty to drop classes and they miss the opportunity to experience college life.
