Comparison and contrast of "'Clouds over the Black Sea in Crimea" and "East River View with Brooklyn Bridge"

The first picture is an art of 'Clouds over the Black Sea in Crimea.' The piece of art was painted using the oil on canvas board. Boris Anisfeld painted the art in 1906. The 'Clouds over the Black Sea in Crimea' was painted to challenge what people used to think of how the traditional landscape was like. Boris visited the United States after the revolution in 1917. Within a year, his 'Clouds over the Black Sea in Crimea art' were hosted in Brooklyn Museum with Accession number 33.416. The second picture is an art 'East River View with the Brooklyn Bridge.' The art was painted in 1983 by the artist Yvonne Jacquette. Lansdowne-Bloom Foundation purchased the painting to honor the memory of Louis Lansdowne and Dick S. Ramsay. The art was painted through the medium of oil painted on canvas. 'East River View with Brooklyn Bridge' with Accession Number 83.84 is located at Brooklyn Museum. 

Size 

When the artist is painting, they use different materials. For the two artwork 'Clouds over the Black Sea in Crimea' and 'East River View with Brooklyn Bridge' there was canvas used. The pictures are still fresh though they were painted more than 70 years ago. The canvas had to be sized for them to last that long. The sized paper helps the color of the paper to last much longer. There is the literal meaning of the size. 'Clouds over the Black Sea in Crimea' covers a larger area compared to 'East River View with Brooklyn Bridge.' The angle, at which the clouds are painted, marks a vast area of land. On the other side, the East Bridge picture is a small sized picture. The bridge covers a small area in Brooklyn.

Subject 

Every artwork has the subject behind the painting. The subject is the idea that the artist had while he/she was painting. Boris and Yvonne portrayed a lot of information within their paintings. They both used the aerial view to capture a lot of information in one painting. Their main subject was to create the reality of the view. The arts showed what the real situation was during the time it was painted. There were differences when the two artists were painting their paintings. Yvonne while she was painting 'East River View with Brooklyn Bridge,' she ensured that the bird-eye view of New York. 

The shadow below the bridge indicates the landscape angle at which the picture was taken. Since the painting was done on 'East River View with Brooklyn Bridge,' a lot has transformed in Brooklyn. Yvonne's subject on the paint maintains of the aerial view. Boris while he was painting 'Clouds over the Black Sea in Crimea' he was inspired by the view. The painter showed a lot of phenomena within a painting. The time at which the 'Clouds over the Black Sea in Crimea' painting was done, there was no such type paints. Boris wanted to challenge what people believed could not be done. Traditionally people did not think of such type of inclusive paintings. Therefore Boris's subject in 'Clouds over the Black Sea in Crimea' was the nature. Yvonne's subject while painting 'East River View with Brooklyn Bridge' was creativity. 

Color 

Use of color creates exciting scenes in a painting. The two artists Yvonne and Boris used different colors to bring out their subject in the paintings. The use of color creates the mood of the painting. In 'Clouds over the Black Sea in Crimea' picture, blue, white and gray colors have been used effectively. The colors play different roles within the painting. The blue color represents the waters. Boris used the blue color to represent the Black Sea waters in the paint. The gray color represented the rocks of Aiou-Dagh Mountain. The mountains had no vegetation; therefore, there was no need for the green color. The white color represents clouds. Heavy clouds are black; consequently, the weather had light clouds. The gray color shows the depth of the landscape. 

Yvonne used different colors while painting 'East River View with Brooklyn Bridge.' Some of the colors are similar to those used by Boris in 'Clouds over the Black Sea in Crimea' paint. She used blue color to represent water. Due to the difference in time, she used a dark blue color. The art shows the picture of New York at night. There a reflection of the buildings in the water. Dull objects are reflected by the black color which looks like a shadow. The orange color indicates the light at the rooftop in the water while other lights are white. 

Texture 

Art texture shows the perceived quality of the surface of the art. The texture will portray if the picture is a two dimensional or a three-dimensional artwork. When the art is touched, we feel the texture of it. Both of the artists have used the visual texture in their work. These are lines which are implied to represent something. They used the waveform painting to represent the water waves. 'Clouds over the Black Sea in Crimea' painting have some of the actual texture. The mountains are represented with some rough paintings which you feel when you touch the painting itself. Yvonne in her work on 'East River View with Brooklyn Bridge,' she used various visual textures, but her painting remained smooth.
