The research purpose is to examine the available recommended treatments of drug abuse and excessive alcohol intake relapse in patients after they have been discharged from rehabilitation centers. The study will analyze ways to correct environmental factors that propel a drug abuser to re-use illegal substances after they leave care centers. The research will also analyze treatments for intrinsic reasons that cause drug abusers to re-live their experiences post the mentioned period ( Andersson, Wenaas, & Nordfjærn, 2019) . Additionally, the study purposes to identify current techniques in place that the medical fraternity uses to treat patients who begin in drug abuse again even after they have been treated before. Finally, the research conducted will suggest under-exploited areas that medical personnel can apply to prevent subsequent drug abuse relapse in discharged patients.
Research Rationale
Drug abuse relapse continues to worry the medical fraternity because it undermines their efforts to rehabilitate the user. Intensive treatment routines, whether pharmacological or non-pharmacological, appear to be non-useful because a percentage of patients still re-use illegal drugs and revert to excessive alcohol intake even after being subjected to detoxification interventions. Additionally, current techniques to prevent drug abuse relapse in patients appear to be non-effective ( Appiah et al., 2017) . Therefore, my study on ways to inhibit substance abuse in patients who have undergone rehabilitation efforts is essential. I will uncover weaknesses of existing treatment methods of relapsing drug abusers and individuals who intake alcohol excessively. Additionally, my study will suggest areas that have been unexploited by the healthcare fraternity that can be applied to ensure drug abusers do not relapse post their discharge from treatment centers.

Positionality Issues
The research on drug abuse relapse in patients post their leaving rehabilitation centers is important to me for various reasons. I have a friend who has been admitted in hospitals multiple times because they were intoxicated by illegal drugs and required emergency detoxification. My friend has been admitted in three rehabilitation centers but keeps finding ways to re-use drugs even after being discharged. I have hoped that my friend will stop re-using drugs but my wish remains unfulfilled to date. I believe the study will help me understand reasons for my friend’s drug abuse relapse every time they are discharged from rehabilitation centers fully equipped with knowledge on how to prevent illegal substance re-use ( Ravitch & Carl, 2020) . I am also curious why existing techniques, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, appear to be ineffective in treating drug abuse relapse. Finally, by the end of the research, I hope to have devised a sufficient treatment regimen that will help my friend from relapsing after leaving the current rehabilitation center they are admitted in.
Research Question
The core issues the study will address include the reasons for drug abuse relapse in patients and prevention techniques for the same. The research will analyze current literature on the mentioned issues and then design a comprehensive question addressing the same. Current reasons for drug abuse relapse post leaving rehabilitation centers have been categorized into environmental and inherent factors ( Menon & Kandasamy, 2018) . However, present studies do not exhaust inherent reasons for drug abuse relapse in patients. Additionally, drug abuse relapse studies do not provide sufficient data on effective prevention of re-use in substance abusers after they leave rehabilitation centers. Therefore, my study’s research question is: What are the ways to decrease relapse after substance use disorder treatment?
Personal Reflection
I have gained extensive expertise in effective ways to conduct a qualitative research since I started the exercises assigned. I understood the differences between conceptual frameworks and theoretical frameworks in research and how to design a problem statement. I learned how to annotate sources appropriately and ways to critique their source authority. Additionally, I enjoyed the purpose formulation and designing a research question parts of my study. My present purpose of selected study is to evaluate extensively reasons for drug abuse relapse in users post their release from rehabilitation centers and effective treatment regimens to subject them to prevent future relapse. Finally, my designed research question is: What are the methods to decrease relapse after substance use disorder treatment?
