Countertransference is a redirection of a psychotherapist's feelings towards a client in a counseling situation. It mostly involves a scenario in which a client and the therapist have a mutual feeling towards each other. It is a vital tool when used appropriately and can also do a lot of harm if not realized and dealt with.

Professionals' Legal and Ethical Standards

The legal and ethical standards that enable the professionals to treat clients with different values include counseling relationships whereby an unprofessional relationship of any kind must be avoided at all costs, for example attending formal ceremonies parties and more. Next is the confidentiality of the client. Precaution should be taken to ensure that the client's personal information is not exposed.

The Analytic Theory and The Role of Unconscious

The analytic theory in transference and countertransference emphasizes the importance of being whole as a person. It clearly shows how earlier experiences shape one's personality. It focuses on the significance of the present. According to Searles 2017, the theory brings whatever individual experiences in line with broader truths, experiences, and consciousness. A person's sexual behavior is greatly influenced by childhood experiences impended in the unconscious mind. The understanding of this theory makes counseling more effective. The theory can be applied perfectly in sexuality counseling.

Strategies for Working with Clients Who Have Differing Values

When working with such clients, counselors need to remain professional. According to Rowland & Gutierrez (2020), the counselor should dig dip into the client and set aside negative feelings. Counselors should also set aside their personal beliefs, a difference of liking, and acceptance. It is, therefore, crucial for the counselor to be objective.

Implementation of These Strategies When Working with Clients

The strategies for working with clients with different values can be implemented in several ways. The counselor should notice when negative feelings emerge and find the possible causes. According to Kabir, 2017, practicing self-examination to identify clients' problems is of great significance during counseling. Counselors should also set aside personal beliefs. This entails holding back strong prejudices and strong personal beliefs during the session. Lastly, counselors should ensure the client gets the best and ensure they bring out the best in that person.

Conclusion

In retrospect, the psychotherapist and a client's emotions are entangled. When their values differ, the psychotherapist has the responsibility of ensuring that it does not affect the counseling session.
