Question 1 

The first method that is effectively utilized in the collection and accumulation of data in the article is the use of case studies. Case studies involve in-depth investigations of an entity, group, community or event. In a case study, the research can go on for a considerable amount of time. It is mainly concerned with the simple observations of what happens or reconstructing the history of a given people, participant, or a group. It is an effective method, especially when dealing with a large number of respondents. An example of a case study in the article is when on the research that involved 806,526 people in 135 countries to determine the correlation between an individual's income and their happiness. The study was carried out for over six years. The strengths of a case study include the fact that it offers quality information and also provides research for otherwise impractical situations. The shortcomings include the fact that it is difficult to replicate and that it is time-consuming. 

The second method was resource in the gathering of information is the survey. It is a method of data collection that can be used to define the characteristics of a population, observed and self-reported behavior, needs, attitudes, opinions, and awareness of programs. Surveys over a period can be useful in depicting of change over time. In the article, a survey was conducted by the National Science Foundation to find out the number of Americans who felt that they were ‘'very happy.'' Advantages of survey method include the fact that it is a convenient way of data collection and provides a good statistical significance. The disadvantages include that it is an inflexible design and cannot be used in controversial issues. The third method of data accumulation that has been used is experimentation. It is a method that is based on inquiry using scientific interventions. It is normally based on a cause and effect relationship. It also involves the testing of a hypothesis. In the text, experimentation is used to research the gene that was given the name DRD4. Advantages include comprehensive conclusions and the utilization of many variations. The disadvantage includes the fact that it is subject to human errors.

Pie charts have been used to represent information regarding whether social media profiles make people look successful, happier, and more attractive than they really look. The charts give a good visual impression of the results that were found in the survey with a whopping 76% majority saying yes, 17% saying no, and a further 7% are either confused, or they just don't know. The pie chart is also used to represent information that is built from the question as to whether the social media profile is a true reflection of what people are really are. 78% agree with the assertions while another 17% are in disagreement. Another method has used bar graphs to depict what fewer people are doing in pursuit of satisfying their moods. Some of the data represented on the bar graphs include figures representing people who resort to interventions such as eating, shopping, having sex, helping others, and meditating. The use of bars with different color and sizes is essential in giving a good visual representation. 

Thirdly, visual aids have been used in the text to make a summary of the information contained in the body of the literature. They are used to give a correlation between happiness and money. The visual aids are represented in such as way that a summary of information is fixed into a colorful circle. Among the information represented include how individual’s happiness increases when they get a job. It also represents information that people receiving better pay are more likely to be happier than their counterparts who don’t.

Lieberman and Morelli used what was known as the FMRIS that assisted them to study people’s reactions when viewing their sad image. They employed the use of pictures that contained sad images of individuals. Another technique that was utilized by the two researchers was destruction which involved giving the volunteers a number containing eight digits which needed to be memorized. Another vital asset in their research was the use of people with unrefined brains which were processed in their observations. The observations that were made included the fact that people who were distracted by the number containing eight digits had their empathy reactions markedly reduced. Respondents with uncultured brains had positive processing of the images. The use of people with the unrefined brains was the psychological method while the physiological method involved the use of the eight-digit number.

The first implication of the quote by Morelli is that the promotion of civil engagement requires focus. Destructions have a negative implication that might make it difficult to achieve the goals that come with civil engagement. Another implication includes the difficulty involved in making the difference between the goals of civil engagement due to a diminished level of empathy. Reduced empathy, therefore, causes people to fail to understand the relevance or importance of civil management. When addressing issues of public concerns, it is critical to focus an individual's brain on the main agenda and also reduce the distractions that might cause the level of empathy in people to be reduced. Reduced levels of distraction can lead to the promotion of civil management thereby increasing happiness in people.
