Wake up and live that is what she always said after witnessing the brutal execution of her father by the local gang. Ondion is or was a good town, but like every good thing, there is always a bad thing that lingers in the midst to create “balance.” At the time of John’s execution-Jane’s father- she was three years old; old enough to understand and see her father gasping for the last breathe through the louvers of the closet doors where her father had hidden her.

John and Mellissa were a happy couple blessed with a beautiful baby girl, Jane. Mellissa worked as a nurse and John as an accountant. They had a perfect life. This was 20 years ago Jane can remember everything. The joy disappeared when her mother fell sick. Her mother developed a brain tumor while Jane was still a toddler. She was only three years when this happened. Unfortunately, John had lost his job at the time when the country was experiencing a depression, which saw many employed people lose their jobs. John had no other option than going back to his high school friend, Hugo a local gangster who had made his way up through drug dealing to the top of Ondion. At the sight of John, Hugo was intrigued at first, but later he is saddened by the bad news that John brings him. Hugo does not hesitate to offer his help and lends John some amount of cash to take care of his sick wife’s hospital bills. The doctors tried their best saving Jane’s mother, but to no avail. She lost her life, leaving Jane and her father alone.

The local police had been looking for a way to apprehend Hugo and send him to jail for a long time, but they had not found substantial evidence. Hugo and John spent quality time together, and police saw this as an opportunity to capture Hugo by turning John into a confidential informant. They did this through intimidating John that they will arrest him and charge him with drugs that they had planted on him. John loved his family very much and was not willing to leave them with no one to take care of them, especially now that his wife had died and Jane who is still a toddler was all alone. He gave up Hugo, who later learned about this and planed on killing him for the betrayal.

Jane lives with her uncle in a little house with her late father’s dog “Sam,” a thin beast, with a long white rough fur. Just like every single day, Jane visits her dad’s grave with Sam. Every day she is grieving. Word in the town is that the man who killed her father is in town. Jane is waiting for him in the pub. Jane is now 25 years, but she still remembers what happened on that day. Jane and her father woke up early in the morning on that day. They were to visit the museum, her dad had promised. The sun was shimmering so radiantly, and they could hear the chorus of the birds outside their window. It was a warm and beautiful day. The museum was beautiful, she enjoyed every moment while there. The long day came to an end. Jane and her father had dinner at a local restaurant and headed home. They were preparing for bed when they had a knock. Her father took a glance at his watch, which read 11:00. “Who could it be at this hour? Princess goes to bed that could be my business associate, although I am not expecting him to call.”

“Alright dad, have a lovely night.”

“Good night princess, dad loves you very much.”

He opened the door and a built man entered. He seemed agitated and drunk. Jane was watching from her bedroom’s window. She could not get clearly what the man was talking about but he was pacing up and down yelling and lifting his hands. She remembered seeing the man spend some quality time with her father; he was also present at her mother’s burial. John seemed frightened and uneasy and as he was looking around he saw Jane peeping through the bedroom window, John excused himself and hid Jane inside the closet. He did not want his little girl to see what was going to happen as he feared for his life. Hugo got a knife from his pocket and continuously stabbed John on his chest. Till today Jane remembers this night, the night she saw her father get dangerously stabbed by a drunken man she later came to learn his name was Hugo.

She stood there motionless, weeping silently and watching her father gasp for his last breath. He had blood all over him; on his face, on his clothes and on his hands from trying to stop the bleeding. She cried holding his face hoping he would wake up and comfort her. She could feel her father’s beard and hair hard from the clots of blood. After rigor mortis had taken effect, Jane had that inner feeling that her father was no more. By this time, the neighbors had already arrived and called the local police station. She leaned towards his dead body and kissed her father’s dead lips as a sign of goodbye. Her father’s body was taken by the local coroner to Ondonio’s morgue and after five days her father’s burial took place. Till today when Jane gets into dark enclosures, the fateful ordeal of her father’s murder always reappears in her mind and at times clear pictures resurface. She swore to revenge her father’s death once she was old enough.

By the time the local police arrived Hugo was already gone. He was never apprehended or charged for the murder despite Jane’s description of the killer to the police. Jane had no clear answer to what had made Hugo skip town, was it due to the murder of her father or was there any other reason that had led him to leave town. Her uncle, Jason, takes her in as she did not have anybody to take care of her. Jason is John’s older brother, and he feels obligated to take care of his brothers’ only daughter. Jason decides to take her to school, but Jane is not interested, all she can think about is revenge for the cruel action that Hugo did to her father.

Jason realized that Jane’s motive was to get revenge. He confronts her and she admits she wants to seek justice for Hugo’s crime. Jason explains to her that she needs first to go to school to understand how people think to be proficient and effective killers. He even suggests helping her carry out her plans by teaching her how to be an assassin. He swore to always keep her safe no matter what happens. Jane listens to him and agrees to go to school. Her uncle takes her to the best private school where she gets a education. She graduates, gets a good job and keeps plotting on how to kill Hugo.

Hugo had escaped the same evening, but now he was in town. Hugo had disappeared for a while since the police were looking for him for drug trafficking. Word in town is that Hugo is town to fight off the Russian mafia in Odonio who want to overthrow him in the drug business. Hugo has worked hard to get where is and he is not ready to lose his business to the Russians. Jane, on the other hand, sees this great opportunity to carry out the revenge of a man who most of her life she could only think of but could not get hold off. Hugo was never punished which angered Jane and he ran his businesses like nothing had happened 22 years ago. Murder is in human crime a person can commit and very vile and getting away with is injustice. She decided to take the matter into her own hands and revenge for the death of her father someday. She is ready to eliminate Hugo as she learnt tactical skills by her uncle for survival in war scenarios.

Jane is obsessed with killing Hugo to the extent that she does not care about endangering her life or her uncle’s. Jason tries to talk her out of the revenge and even suggests that she should wait for the perfect moment and place to kill Hugo. This is because Hugo has many body guards in his security details. Practically it is hard to get to Hugo without his security men interfering and probably ending your life. But his plea fell on deaf ears. Jane reminds him, he swore to help her kill Hugo. Jane suggests that they go to Jason place at night and shoot hit while he is sleeping.

“This man is dangerous Jane, if we go ahead and go to his place we will have to dig two graves. One mine, one yours. As much as I want to help you, we must carry out this plan with caution. He is guarded everywhere he goes.” Her uncle explains.

“So what do we do now that he is here, and all we ever wanted is to get justice?” Jane asks. “This is the perfect time to get him as he is distressed with the Russian Mafia who is into his business. He will therefore not know who hit him and is busy trying to protect his business territory.”

“Exactly, right now, he is armed heavily because he is waiting to kill anyone who will come busting through his front door.” Jason argues.

They argued about this for the next ten minutes and as usual, Jane wins by using her classical victim mentality and Jason has no other option but to follow her plan even though he is not contented with the way has decided.

Jason and Jane head to the garage and grab some guns; change into black attires and wears masks and left for Hugo’s mansion. Five security men were at the gate, but that does not stop Jane and Jason from busting to the front gate with their truck. Jane manages to kill three of the security men by running over them with the truck. They get out of the truck and shoot the remaining two security guards. In the midst of the shootout, they manage to kill almost all of Hugo’s men save for the boss-Hugo and unfortunately Jane realizes that her uncle is also shot. She tries to help him by putting pressure on the chest wound, but Jason tells her to go on with the objective of killing Hugo who is trying to escape. Jane gets caught in the middle of a dilemma, to save her only left family or get the man who is ending her family. Anger overcomes her and she screams after seeing life escape from her uncle’s body and she goes after Hugo with no remorse whatsoever.

Hugo tries to escape after he realizes that all his men were down and he had no enough bullets to keep up with the fight. He tries to sneak out the back door for he is not aware of who is behind the attack. No sooner had he seen a shadow approaching him, than he started shooting the last bullets that he had left. Now Hugo is helpless and cannot do anything but to watch his killer approach him with a gun in her hand and a mask on her face. He is helpless but still has the guts to confront his killer to take off the mask and toss the gun away for a fist fight. Jane takes off her mask; Hugo is shocked how a woman can fight his entire troop which no one has ever done.

“Who are you and who has sent you?” asks Hugo.

With an ironical chuckle, Jane responds by telling him how the world was a small place and nothing goes unpunished. Hugo is bewildered and ambivalent because he does not know who this girl is.

“Seems you still cannot recall who I am, let me jog your memory” says Jane ,” 22 years ago, I saw you murder my father, John for some misunderstanding that should have been solved peacefully without involving violence taking into consideration that he was your long time friend and was mourning his wife’s death. The little girl you left with no father is standing right in front of you.”

Hugo remembers and tells Jane that John was never his friend because real friends do not go behind their friends back informing on them to the police. Jane is confused and wonders what Hugo is talking about and if she is fighting for the right course. Her face suddenly turns pale. Hugo sees this and pounces to inflict more psychological damage on her.

“Oh! you did not know? Your father took my kindness for weakness, as much as I offered my help for him to help himself. He went behind my back, and reported to the police on how I get my daily bread. Nobody does that to Hugo and goes away with it. Not even John. I stabbed that informant like a dog who he was.”

Jane gets agitated and picks her gun but hesitates for she has a better plan for making Hugo beg for mercy which would be more satisfying to her for the loss of her uncle and father. She throws a pair of handcuffs to Hugo and orders him to cuff himself to a conduit pipe. Hugo first resists and Jane shoots him on the knee. He gets the message the hard way and cuffs himself to the pipe while groaning with pain.

Jane gets a container from the truck that is full of gasoline. She pours it on Hugo ignoring his pleas for her to spare his life. Jane gets a twinge of satisfaction, but she needs a lot more satisfaction from the animal that killed her father. She reaches for a matchbox from her pocket and stares directly into Hugo’s eye who is now panting heavily with fear all over his face. She lights a matchstick and tosses it towards Hugo. The matchstick contact with Hugo’s body ignited a huge burst of flame coupled with relentless screams from Hugo.

Talk about satisfaction Jane thought for she had now completed the long-planned revenge on her father’s murder.
