The meeting of two neurons is called a synapse and the space between them referred to as a synaptic cleft. The nerve impulses are transmitted from one neuron to another through chemicals that are called neurotransmitters which link pre-synaptic neuron to the receptors of the post-synaptic membrane. Overall, the transmission of impulses across synapses and along neurons is extremely rapid. The impulses take approximately 120 meters per second while in the nervous system. The fact that its design is well coordinated and takes short time leaves a lot of surprise.
The electrical synapse transmits the signals extremely quickly to allow related groups of cells to act on the signal in coordination. The synapse allows neurons to pass through chemical or electric signal to target cells or to another neuron so that they can be transmitted or carried to the spinal cord or brain for action. The spinal cord and the brain in turn send the messages through motor neurons using hormones as the messenger. The chemical messengers or the neurotransmitters are responsible for carrying signals from axon to dendrite through fluid space.

After understanding the path taken the nervous system to have the brain and the spinal cord signaled to initiate body action according to the signal given, the nervous system seems a bit complicated. I would prefer a design that does not involve many parts. However, considering that despite its complicated design, it takes a very short time and the transmission of the impulses are highly rapid, I would not recommend another design. The main aim of the nervous system is to relay messages to the brain and the spinal cord within a very short time for appropriate action to be taken. Further, the complex design of the nervous system is well organized and coordinated.
