Oliver Cloyd

Oliver Cloyd is joining the organization as the new chief operating officer, a position he will assume office in the next week. Before joining SPCA, he worked as a consultant in various fields, including animal feeds, farming, and cosmetics research. The professional has a bachelor's degree in agriculture from the University of Nebraska and veterinary from the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine. This training and a cattle farming background have made Cloyd an expert who has operated vet clinics in three states in the last 40 years. His practice revolves around cats, dogs, pigs, cattle, goats, and other household pets and farm animals. During his tenure, Cloyd has encountered thousands of animals through life-saving surgeries, check-ups, and follow-ups in a bid to ensure their wellbeing. During this practice, the experience that he gained has earned him a spot as a judge during the horses' show in his state of residence. Apart from running a private practice, Cloyd has been a board member at the National Veterinary Associates (NVA) and is a consultant for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). This immense experience in animal welfare and operations management means that Cloyd has what it takes to move SPCA to another level.

Ellie Tsai

Ellie Tsai is joining SPCA as the new Executive Director and would provide the Board of Directors with a roadmap for achieving the organization's mission and vision. She has a degree in law from the University of Virginia and another in sociology from William & Mary. The Connecticut native has accumulated immense experience in the legal field, working as a New York City law firm partner for six years. From here, she went ahead to open and work in a law firm in Richmond, Virginia, for additional eight years. Tsai provided the Humane Society of America with legal counsel, and she has a license to practice law both in Virginia and New York. The experience that she has gained has made her an expert, evidenced by the fact that she has been part of monumental cases in the US. Apart from practicing law, Tsai is a board member at Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and Virginia Bar Association. Tsai, a lifelong animal lover and a volunteer in her local SPCA for 12 years, will be the right candidate for this position. As a champion for animal wellbeing, she is the perfect fit for the job that requires exceptional organizational and managerial skills that she has developed over the years.

Photo Sketches

Sketch for Oliver Cloyd

Whisper something into my ear; I am listening

This sketch is better than the original image since it depicts an individual with a close relationship with animals. The first image is an individual distanced from animals considering that he is holding the pig next to his waist. Although he is petting the animal, the overall that he is wearing makes one think that he is a veterinarian who has been attending the pig, thus ridding a sense of ownership. On the other hand, the new sketch points to an extreme animal lover who places the chicken next to his face as if listening to its thoughts. The use of chicken instead of familiar pets such as dogs and cats would point to the universality of promoting animal welfare.

Sketch for Ellie Tsai

Please do not put me down, I love it here

This sketch is better than the original one because it depicts an avid animal lover who would go to any length to protect and assure them that all will be well. The first sketch did not convey such a message as there was no indication that Tsai was concerned for animals. However, this second sketch tells the viewer that all kinds of animals are special and deserve kindness and love in love. Coming up with this sketch highlights the need for taking care of young animals, which are usually left to their mothers. Embracing such young animals sends the message that human caretakers must assume the role of a mother and do all they could to protect all animals in the world.

Additional Media Ideas

Oliver Cloyd

He could look at the chicken to depict concern.

A farming background with other animals would be ideal as it would portray the authenticity of his attachment to animals.

Ellie Tsai

She should look at the kid to indicate that she cares for this animal.

She could let her hair loose to depict a wild side that would align with her commitment to defending animals.

Reprieve to Animals as SPCA Hires Animal Lovers to Senior Management Positions

Animal lovers have a reason to celebrate since SPCA has hired two new employees to fill senior management positions. Oliver Cloyd and Ellie Tsai bring to the board professional experiences from different fields, including law, sociology, veterinary, and agriculture. This combination of skills is a rare gem that means that the two will positively impact the organizational stakeholders and animals.

Cloyd has immense experience in animal husbandry and veterinary medicine, meaning that our animals will be in safe hands. This experience will support SPCA's mission of advancing the safety and wellbeing of all animals. The fact that Cloyd has retired from veterinary practice is a plus for the organization, considering that he would not be distracted. The communication team at the organization looks forward to working with him as the new Chief Operating Officer, and so should you. We encourage all the staff, clients, veterinarians, and the community around the organization to render your support.

SPCA is honored to work with Tsai, who has a background training in sociology and law but leaning on the latter. She has accumulated over 20 years of experience in the legal field, an aspect that would come in handy in championing animal rights. More so, Tsai has been volunteering at her local #SPCA as a way of ensuring that animals are treated humanely. We are sure that she will be the perfect fit for the Executive Director position who would be capable of steering the Board of Directors in the right direction. We believe that you will support her as she begins her professional journey with us. #adoptdontshop #animallover #newhires

Fact Sheet

SPCA resources and fact sheets help animal welfare advocates find requisite tools for promoting animal protection policies, creating change, and educating the public on animal rights.

About Us

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is a not-for-profit animal welfare organization with operations worldwide. This organization was created to rescue animals that have been neglected, abandoned, or abused by placing them in shelters. Individuals interested in these animals are free to adapt to them as long as they commit to protecting them. SPCA is involved in drafting and implementing policies that regulate cruelty directed towards wild and domestic animals.

Our History

The first (SPCA), founded in 1824 in England, prevented carriage horses from being abused by being denied water, food, and rest. The carriage drivers who were only interned in reaping huge profits would beat these horses if they could not pull carriages. The initial success in championing horse rights paved the way for SPCA to expand to include other animals. The US got its first SPCA which was headquartered in New York in 1866, but currently, there are centers all over the country and the globe.

Mission

SPCA is committed to advancing the wellbeing and safety of all animals.

Vision

SPCA envisions a world where all animals live a life free of suffering and cruelty of any form.

Values Statement

SPCA embraces respect, kindness, awareness, compassion, and integrity, values that apply to all aspects of its vision and mission to pave the way for a cruelty-free world.

Programs

SPCA has innovative programs that serve animals and human care cars in a bid to stop the suffering and abuse of animals.

Veterinary Supply Aid

This program focuses on providing animal welfare groups around the globe with veterinary medical supplies. This initiative has been productive, considering that organizations are now able to immunize and sterilize more animals.

Education Initiatives

SPCA provides animal activists, pet parents, and concerned citizens with actionable and important information that improves animal welfare. SPCA being an information hub, is in a position to educate the public on various animal welfare issues and contribute to related policies.

Shelter Support Fund

SPCA collaborates with animal rescue groups, shelters, advocacy groups, and governments by providing them with grants to support life-saving work. These partnerships have been instrumental in encouraging rescue, rehabilitation, treatment, and feeding of more animals.

Communication with Stakeholders

SPCA is committed to transparency and efficiency, as evidenced by its commitment to communicate with donors, supporters, regulatory agencies, and prospective donors. The organization uses postal mail, news releases, emails, and other means to source contributions, which educate the public on animal welfare. As an organization exempted from taxation, we ensure that the money we receive is spent accordingly to support our vision and mission.

Our Team

SPCA has a vibrant workforce committed to ensuring that the organization adopts practical tragedies that result in improved animal welfare. The key staff includes Meredith Ayan, the Executive Director; Lori Kalef, Program Director; Anne Abbot, Development Director; Emma Kronish, Content Marketing Manager; and Abia Cartagena, Operations Coordinator. On the other hand, our Board of Directors is a five-member team which Pierre Barnoti, Board President, heads. The individuals who serve on the board and top management have accumulated immense experience, which guarantees the organization's mission and vision.

Future Outlook

SPCA has been at the frontline for developing and implementing policies to promote animal welfare since it began. Our work is not yet over until we are assured that the public treats animals with dignity and respect. The future holds numerous opportunities, and we plan on liaising with our local and global partners to achieve this objective.
