The hidden curriculum is an unwritten type of curriculum. It depends on students in a classroom picking up rules from the nonverbal social cues of others. The primary strength of a hidden curriculum is that it is very useful in teaching students good morals, discipline, and manners. Consequently, the hidden curriculum is always at the danger of teaching learners unintended and undesirable things such as perpetuating gender stereotypes by treating male and female students differently.

A null curriculum represents the subjects and other materials taught in the classroom but are not part of the written or formal curriculum. The major strength of the null curriculum is it impacts students with knowledge of things that are important in the society even if not the written curriculum. On the other hand, its primary weakness is concerned with the perception of learners to those subjects. For instance, when a subject such as music is not part of the written curriculum students will not take it seriously instead they will believe it has no value.

Formal curriculum refers to the written curriculum consisting of grading criteria, course objectives, and lesson plans. Its main advantage is giving students standard guidance rules on what is expected of them. The other types of curricular merely supplement it. Its main weakness is that students in a classroom may ignore other rules not documented in the formal curriculum but still important.

The extra curriculum entails all activities not related to the professional life of a student based on the degrees. The curriculum shapes the passions of learners apart from the degree course. It has many strengths including teaching students about time management, encouraging the ability of learners to fulfill commitments and improve performance in class both through grades and participation. The major weakness entails students failing to balance between class and outside of class. This would increase case of absenteeism in a classroom or inattentive students due to fatigue.
