Unit/Subject: | Literacy Instruction |
Instructional Plan Title: | Digital Literacy Lesson Plan: Using Tablets to access additional resources useful in enhancing foundational knowledge in class. |
Lesson Summary and Focus: |
It is always important for the teacher to ensure that the learners understand the basics of a new topic before they get exposure to more in-depth theories. Such information is known as foundational knowledge and it is critical that teachers introduce such information. Learning involves a hierarchy of phases and foundational knowledge creates the most basic level. The lesson explores ways in which digital literacy tools such as tablets help to achieve foundational knowledge at schools. Lesson summary: Foundational knowledge plays an essential role in promoting students’ understanding about new concepts taught in class. Additional technological resources like tablets are useful in understanding the new knowledge taught within a classroom environment. |
Classroom and Student Factors/Grouping: |
Integrating the use of tablets in the class environment will influence classroom environment because students will shift most of their attention towards the technology. Using technology requires the instructor to have an introduction lesson utilized to equip students with basic skills required to operate the tablets. Identify a software between Poll everywhere, Mentimeter, Socrative, Moodle, Edmodo, and Schoology that will help in providing individualized feedback to students aimed at evaluating one’s understanding of a concept before introducing others. Possible grouping within the class depends on the capability of the student to understand the new knowledge being taught in class. The groups include: ELL learners Students with special needs Students with gifted abilities Early finishers |
National/State Learning Standards: |
The objectives of the lesson include: Understand the definition of foundational knowledge Learn ways to integrate new skills and concepts that will help learners to acquire new knowledge Identify strategies that will enable students to remember all the new information learned Identify types of activities that will work well in enhancing foundational knowledge among students The performance indicator that will help in assessing the effectiveness of the lesson is the instructor-student relations. Student- instructor engagement plays an essential role in developing cognitive abilities among the learners through the exchange of feedback and enabling them to improve on their weak areas. The national standards of learning require that I should understand the depth and breadth of content taught in a classroom environment. Furthermore, the instructor has the responsibility to tailor the content such that it suits the learning needs of the learners. Finally, I should establish a feedback strategy because the class will involve use of tablets for the learners to access information and class resources. The learning standards include; Establish academic expectations that relate with the objectives of teaching foundational knowledge Instructional coherence among all the varying groups Enhance equity and fairness when teaching students across all levels of learning Ensure that all students have access to standardized resources |
Specific Learning Target(s)/Objectives: |
Evaluate whether the student understand what foundational entails and its importance. Evaluate whether the students understand the skills and concepts that will help them input new knowledge among the learners. Evaluate whether the learners understand strategies that can enable student memorize information acquired from classroom engagements. Review the reaction of students as they take part in classroom activities Lesson objectives Ensure that learners understand what foundational knowledge is Ensure that learners understand the importance of foundational knowledge Ensure that learners understand how tablets help them access additional resources about foundational knowledge |
Academic Language |
Foundational knowledge- refers to provision of basic information to the learners before introducing theories and other complex concepts Evidence-based foundations – equipping the learners with necessary skills required to provide professionals skills essential in achieving the intended goals. Strategic knowledge – Capability of the learners to acquire a logical goal that will facilitate their ability to learn new information. Cognitive skills – Skills needed for learners to acquire new information. |
Resources, Materials, Equipment, and Technology: |
Each student must have the following materials to facilitate the learning process: A tablet Access to power Note books Pens Course books Online resources https://doi.org/10.1080/09500693.2017.1416205 https://doi.org/10.1080/09500693.2017.1416205 https://eric.ed.gov/?id=EJ1171289 |
Section 2: Instructional Planning
Anticipatory Set I will engage the students in a question and answer forum aimed at evaluating their understanding about how to learn new concepts I will record their ideas on the white board and explore their preferences on how a lesson should begin I will ask the students to use their tablets to research on the online articles and explore how it is introduced I will engage the students in question and answers to determine differences between their responses and what they find online |
Time Needed 20 minutes |
Multiple Means of RepresentationI will use digital texts to provide students with resources aimed at enhancing their understanding concerning foundational knowledge. I will use visual representation to increases the chances of students understanding of the concepts taught in class. The teacher uses oral instructions to guide the students through the course aimed at enhancing their understanding on different concepts. Explain how you will differentiate materials for each of the following groups: English language learners (ELL): The visual presentation will be critical in enabling ELL learners to acquire concepts being taught in the classroom environment. Students with special needs: The learning materials will be available in different forms to enhance learning among students with different abilities. For instance, the learning resources will be available in braille’s among blind learners and audio recording for those who cannot see. Students with gifted abilities: I will avail them with all the resources needed Early finishers (those students who finish early and may need additional resources/support): The instructor will guide early finishers on strategies to access additional information to encourage them acquire new concepts. |
Time Needed 30 minutes |
Multiple Means of EngagementI will engage the students in discussions aimed at understanding varying concepts in class. I will ensure to give students frequent feedback more often aimed at ensuring that they achieve the intended learning goals. I will give students assignments that they will take home and provide feedback Explain how you will differentiate activities for each of the following groups: English language learners (ELL): Engage them in group works where they can understand class concepts better through their engagement with their peers. Students with special needs: Individualize instructions and break them into smaller units that they can understand at each given time. Students with gifted abilities: Use self-instructional resources aimed at enhancing the understanding of the students about the various issues discussed in class. Early finishers (those students who finish early and may need additional resources/support): Give them an opportunity to ask questions through emails and respond to them to clear any uncertainties. |
Time Needed 1 week |
Multiple Means of ExpressionStudents will express information they have learned in class in the following ways: Assignments Class presentations Sitting exam. Thumbs-up and thumbs down Writing a reflection Explain how you will differentiate assessments for each of the following groups: English language learners (ELL): ELL learners will express their knowledge by writing a presentation and encouraging them to put their thumbs up or down to agree or disagree with what the teacher says Students with special needs: Thumbs up or thumbs down will help to evaluate whether the student understood concepts taught in class. The students will also write a reflection on the coursework Students with gifted abilities: Students with gifted abilities will sit for an exam and work on assignments. Early finishers (those students who finish early and may need additional resources/support): Early finishers will sit for an exam, handover assignments, and write reflections to assess their understanding on foundational knowledge. |
Time Needed 2 lessons |
Extension Activity and/or Homework Students will have homework assignments that they will sit for aimed at enhancing their understanding on the varying classroom concepts about foundational knowledge. |
Time Needed 1 week |
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
