Stephen Hawkings
Stephen Hawkings joins the University of Cambridge and is in a relationship with Jane Wilde, a fellow student who was studying literature. From the beginning, the movie portrays Stephen Hawkings as a person who was interested in mathematics and physics. However, his lecturers were concerned that he did not have an accurate or correct thesis topic. Professor Sciama and Hawking believed that black holes played a key role in the creation of the universe. However, as Hawking was completing his research, his muscles fail, and he falls down and hits his head. Hawking, who was once an active and healthy man, is diagnosed with motor neuron disease, and the condition affects his ability to swallow, talk, and breathe at the age of 21. Additionally, the condition would affect his body movement in about two years. Hawking is concerned that the condition may affect his brain, but his doctors assure him that the condition will not affect his thoughts and brain.
As a way of hiding away from the world, Hawkings isolates himself and begins focusing on his work and thesis. However, Wilde confesses that she loves Hawking. Jane works and fights tirelessly with Hawking while motivating him to complete his scientific works. Ultimately, Wilde and Hawking get married and have a son. During this period, Hawking presents his thesis regarding black holes to the examination board. His thesis argued that there is a black hole that was created in the universe. He also adds that the black hole would emit heat radiations that will eventually land and affect a big Church. As he strives to complete his scientific works, he loses his ability to walk and starts moving in a wheelchair. The entire movie highlights Hawkings’ constant motivation, determination, commitment, and effort to achieve his goals.

John Nash
The movie begins with John Nash's first day at Princeton University, and he appears to be quiet and antisocial. He meets Charles, his roommate, and they become best friends. Nash develops the Game Theory that appears to dispute Adam Smith’s theory. His actions portray that Nash is a gifted student. Five years later, he is not only a teacher at MIT but also works with the US government to decrypt some Soviet Union’s codes. Nash meets a man who takes him to an office full of machine and equipment that would assist him as a code breaker. During his first class at MIT, he meets Alicia, who is a student in his class, and they begin dating. However, during the date, he feels that someone is following and observing him. Nash begins looking for codes in different papers ranging from newspaper to magazines, and it becomes an obsession.
Alicia and Nash are happy for a while, but his mental health seriously worsens, and he develops many delusions. He becomes paranoid, and he is eventually committed to a mental hospital. Nash is diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. It is during this time that it becomes evident that Charles and the man who took him to a technological room were hallucinations created by his condition. Also, the belief that Nash was working secretly for a certain company was false. However, Nash does not believe them. He undergoes a series of treatments to treat his condition, but it was unsuccessful. About a year later, Nash, Alicia, and their child move back to New Jersey. His condition makes the situation quite challenging for Alicia. Nash stops taking medicine because the medication suppresses his sexual desires and does not allow him to help with their baby or reach mathematical solutions.
Nash finds a small house and attempts to find hidden messages on magazines and newspapers and breaking codes. Alicia finds out about the small house. Nash almost accidentally killed their child and hurt Alicia, and she is forced to call the psychiatric hospital. It is during this moment that Nash realizes that he has been hallucinating because Charles and his niece never get old. Alicia gives Nash one more chance because she believes in him, and he appears to ‘get better' by dealing with his hallucinations. He starts ignoring his hallucinations, develops new theories, and starts giving classes. In the end, he wins the Nobel.
Discussion
The two movies reflect upon the hard work of two brilliant minds, Stephen Hawkings and John Nash. They motivate themselves in life regardless of their disabilities. Hawking was diagnosed with motor neuron disease while Nash has schizophrenia. The movie also highlights the significant role of women in their achievements. Wilde supported Hawking while Alicia supported Nash to achieve their dreams regardless of their condition. The two men do not shift their focus, and they achieved significant results. Hawking was able to prove his theory regarding black holes while Nash was able to win the Nobel because of his theories.
However, there are significant differences between the two men. Hawkings' was diagnosed with motor neuron disease that affected his body movements and affected his ability to walk, eat, swallow, and breathe. However, his condition did not affect his thoughts and brain. On the other hand, schizophrenia caused Nash to experience many hallucinations that affected his relationships with friends, family, and peers. Although the conditions did not affect his body movements, it affected his thoughts and mind. Also, while Hawkings fell in love with a fellow student, Nash fell in love with his student. All in all, the two characters show that in life, there are difficult things that may make people lose hope, and it is natural. However, the most important aspect is to be hopeful and break all barriers to success.
