Antecedent Control Strategies on Target Behavior
Among the antecedent control strategies that were used to increase the target behavior include presenting the discriminative stimulus for the target behavior. This strategy mainly involved manipulation of the cues that influenced the target behavior (Glynn, 1982). An additional strategy involved arranging an establishing operation for the target behavior and decreasing the response effort towards the target behavior. Manipulation of establishing operations is also among the strategies employed that involved eliminating the operations that are obstructing the target behavior. Increasing the target behavior had to be in conjunction with the manipulation of response effort that included increasing the effort towards the target behavior and decreasing efforts on alternative behaviors.
The antecedent control strategy used is not enough to keep flossing since it is not possible to reduce the response effort towards the target behavior. The antecedent situations related to the target behavior require integration of other strategies for it to be effective. The identified cues necessary for evoking the target behavior and the cues characterizing the environment require the application of several strategies to achieve the target behavior (Glynn, 1982). The intervention identified is likely to have different effects on dental care including curbing different dental problem causing behaviors and increasing the efforts towards the target behavior improving dental health.

In order to ensure a continued target behavior that will cause people to continue flossing their teeth, extinction of teeth causing behavior is an additional strategy. Flossing teeth should be made a treatment behavior that will be utilized to ensure dental health. In most cases, introducing treatment behaviors help in maintaining target behaviors. Identifying the reinforcing aspect of dental problems will be effective to present flossing of the teeth as an alternative among the people. People floss teeth occasionally, which makes it more likely for individuals to continually floss their teeth after the extinction of the problem behavior (Glynn, 1982).
