How the Ideas relate to Development of Cultural Sensitivity and Cultural Intelligence

The practice of cultural competence requires that the mind, soul, body, and high order intelligence all work together. Therefore, an individual needs to ensure that all the factors involved in recognizing cultural diversity are acknowledged. For instance, besides looking at the eye contact, one also needs to consider scratching of the head. In other words, all four aspects of cultural competence need to function together. The reason behind this is that the recognition of cultural diversity often translates to business productivity. Higher levels of productivity characterize employees who possess higher cultural competence.

Importance to Examining Stereotypes and Cultural Biases

Recognizing the benefits of the development of cultural competence is crucial in ensuring cultural diversity globally. As stated by Hoffman (2015), although cultural sensitivity is of utmost importance, it is currently insufficient in most organizations worldwide. The recognition of cultural differences is an essential part of becoming culturally intelligent.

Focus on Individuals rather than Groups

More importantly, it is essential to emphasize the understanding of Individuals as opposed to their cultural groups. Perceiving an individual differently and separately helps in understanding them as a person and seeing them as a person rather than a part of a particular ethnic group. It is easy for one to respect people as individual and as opposed to when they identify them as a group.

Importance of the Studies

The experiments and research studies presented in the text are vital since they provide a clear picture of how cultural stereotypes take place and what can be done to avoid them. Nevertheless, the most critical information to learn from the studies is an emphasis on the act of focusing on individuals rather than a group. Some characteristics are unique to individuals. Therefore, their behaviors may not be in tandem with the formed stereotypes about the entire group.
