The Question 3 Response is adequate as it observes some of the recurrent themes in the film and themes that were prominent in most of the films released at that time. The American culture is identified as a prominent theme where the father, mother, and child are shown. The response goes ahead to identify that the film showcases some of the challenges that people and families have to go through in their lives. This indicates that film portrays the theme of family and drama concurrently. Most of the films released during that time had a theme of drama, adventure, and family. Drama and adventure was a popular genre of filming used by the Edison Motion Pictures (“Overview of the Edison Motion Pictures by Genre”, 2018). Several films portrayed most of the challenges that families underwent in difficult circumstances such as war and slavery.

While the response is good, it is inadequate as it does not review the filming techniques adopted in the filming. The only filming technique identified was in the original ending where it is identified that ending was poor leading to the loss of the artistic elements. Phillips (2005) observes several filming techniques that should be taken into account when analyzing a film. For instance, editing and sound techniques were adopted in early filming. An analysis of how sound and music was adopted to reinforce mood and support continuity in editing would have been a better response. Additionally, the editing techniques that were adopted and how it changed the original ending would have provided a better analysis to the film. Apart from these issues, the response is good as it identifies the central themes in the film and how it is relevant today.
