When I started my course in education, I was aware that there would be challenges in the learning process and more to come in my practice as a teacher. I have, however, realized over time that there is more difficulty to the practice than meets the eye. My naïve perception of my practice in the education system entailed challenges such as having to stop students from physical conflict, calming down a rowdy class or having to chaperone students on a school trip and having to worry about one or two straying and getting lost. I realize now that these could be the least of my worries after I learned about the teaching evaluation system and the impact it may have on my career in the future.
After reading chapter 16 titled “ Evaluation of Teaching, ” I realize the problem of the evaluation system used on the teaching fraternity that in my opinion affects the teachers’ performance. This chapter expresses the faultiness of the current teaching evaluating system used in areas such as students’ performance tests, based on high achievement tests. There are very many underlying factors that affect the test performance of a particular student leaves alone a whole classroom of it. This, therefore, forms no foundation to determine whether a teacher is doing their job well and whether or not they warrant a demotion or even firing.

I think that it is unfortunate that some teachers may have lost their jobs based on an evaluating system that has not been used efficiently. Especially if it is a system that has been advanced from the traditional system to work better, the “ Evaluation of Teaching ” chapter shows the efficient ways in which the new teaching is evaluating systems can be applied. In my opinion, if the summative and formative evaluating systems were applied as expressed in the chapter, then I believe that the system would work. I would be glad to be evaluated under a system that considers all the challenges that I face within my practice and fairly make a conclusion to improve my efficiency. However, I am aware that this is not the case and for that to happen there needs to be a significant change in the system of evaluating teaching.
After reading chapter 21 titled, “ Facilitating Change, ” I agree with some views on how to apply the change in the education system especially on the factor of evaluating teaching. Based on my understanding of the different forms of applying the change in the education system as expressed in this chapter, I specifically choose to endorse the Chaos theory. In my view having experienced the education system and as an aspiring participant of it in the capacity of a teacher the Chaos theory would work best in facilitating the kind of change required in the teaching evaluating the system.
The Chaos Theory acknowledges the education system as chaotic thus should be approached as such. The Chaos theory has various concepts to it, but I am particularly drawn to the nonlinear concept of the Chaos theory in terms of facilitating change on the teacher evaluation systems. The nonlinear concept with the acknowledgment of the education system being chaotic suggests an approach towards the intended change from a cultural basis where the school community is given the main focus in the implementation of this change and not orders from above.
As an aspiring member of the teaching fraternity, I believe that with the aid of the nonlinear concept of the Chaos theory of change we on the ground level of education system deserve the power to facilitate the change that we so need. As the individuals experiencing the education system and the ones who will be evaluated based on our performance in it, it is necessary therefore that we enable the change that is relevant to a proper teaching evaluation system. For me, the nonlinear Chaos theory would work best to enable this change.
