Unit 4

To a large extent, my family culture has contributed to my beliefs today. One of the important aspects instilled in me since childhood is responsibility and hard work. Other values included independence and self-sufficiency. Ideally, these beliefs are consistent with the American values of equality. For instance, my parents believed that both girls and boys had the right for education. Also, individualism was highly valued because they wanted each of us to become independent in order to unleash the latent talents within us

The expectations between girls and boys were the same. Everyone was expected to act in utmost discipline and perform any house chores allocated to them. Some of the disciplinary measures included time outs and deprived privileges. One would receive rewards and allowances for consistent good behaviour. With no doubt, therefore, I would definitely raise my own children in the same way.

Unit 5

For most working parents, taking their children in a development center is a daunting experience that is accompanied by fear. For that matter, ensuring a safe and nurtured environment that contains equipment for children involvement will ensure children happiness and parent’s satisfaction. Other cares include: preparing quality educational programs that fits the needs of every child and applying positive and negative reinforcements to enhance children`s discipline. Some of the challenges that am likely to face in involving parents include shortage of time as many work long hours, illiteracy and language barriers. Some of the ways of working around these challenges include: formulating curriculum that requires parent involvement especially on weekends, constantly sending them feedbacks related to their children`s progress and forming social media platforms that involves the parents to constantly communicate with them.

Unit 6

Parents are the most important people in ensuring the development and optimal growth of children with disabilities. Their major responsibility is to avail basic resources, and to offer them parental love, affection, acceptance, encouragement and guidance. They are supposed to create a nurtured environment where those children develop physically, mentally, emotionally and socially. The community, on the other hand, has a responsibility of providing support both physical and informational to parents of these children in order for them to make informed decisions, and to be more competent on how to guide the children. Moreover, the school has a duty in ensuring that the educational needs of these children are met. Consequently, they are supposed to design curriculums that meet all round needs of these young ones. The curriculum framework should have multiple means of expression, representation and engagement.

As an early childhood administrator, some of the strategies I would use to create shared effort between families schools and community include: developing communication means where the three parties can share information, formulating collaborative activities where they are supposed to participate and strategies that enhances connective learning at home.

Unit 7

Young children are at high risks of cyber related crimes. They are prone to cyber bulling, exposure to sexual images, and internet predators. For that matter, the caregivers and parents should ensure constant supervision on what the children does. Other measures include: installing software that restrict a child’s online activities and informing children that they can only make online contacts with only the people they know. Additionally, parents need to be educated on certain skills in order to ensure cyber safety for young children. Some of the ways of educating parents on cyber safety techniques include: teaching them on cyber smart techniques, ways of developing family social media agreements, and how to formulate family value agreements that communicate the positive values accepted in the family.

Unit 8

Homeschooling is a program where a child who has reached the schooling age learns outside of public and private environment. Basically, it involves a commitment by parents to oversee their child’s educational development, and children learn from the resources available in the community and interaction with others who homeschool. Some of the societal events that have led to increase in homeschooling includes negative behaviors involved in public schools such as drug abuse, dissatisfaction with rigid academic instructions and parent’s preference in providing religious and moral instructions not provided in schools.

The teaching methods used in homeschooling includes: traditional, classical, challote mason, interest led and leadership led method. Homeschooling is legal in 50 states in USA. There, however, exist certain procedures that parents are supposed to follow in home schooling their children. Further, as a childhood administrator, understanding the motives, advantages and disadvantages of homeschooling helps to develop strategies of informing and advising parents accordingly. Also, one is able to modify some curriculum in private and public schools that can meet the changing educational needs for children.
