The problem of overweight and obesity is profound in the United States and a solution lies in the food manufacturers. Though there are messages and people know that the problem exists and is dangerous to their lives, the number still soar high as time advances. It has become a big challenge to control the disease whose probable cause is hidden in the fast foods, ready to eat foods and carbonated drinks. It is evident that the cause of obesity and overweight among the American consumers is the food additives added to the drinks and other foods to meet the consumers' preferences. Companies that manufacture drinks and convenient foods have a role to play in curbing the menace that affects a significant number of Americans. Ingredients that are used to make the foods have to be carefully chosen and used in limited quantities so that the people are saved from their effects. Sugars, salts, and facts are the major causes of overweight and obesity, hypertension, diabetes and heart-related complications.

Food manufacturers need to drop their financial ambitions and greed and work towards creating products that are healthy and beneficial to the public. To say that the people choose what they like is a mean statement because almost all the affordable varieties are not healthy. It is only the name and brands that change. The numbers of children and teens who have been diagnosed with diabetes and related complications should sound an alert to the manufacturers to change their marketing means. Children will always go for what tastes good for them, and given that they have no knowledge on implications of such choices, they will consume with no discrimination.

Lastly, parents and consumers have to make better choices for the foods that they eat. Even though mothers have become busier working at the offices and other workplaces, they still have a role to play in the lives of their children and families. The foods that they choose should be healthy to avoid preventable problems. Convenient and ready to eat foods have proved unhealthy and contribute to the menace that affects many people in the US. Refined, packaged and taste enhanced foods are choices that should be shunned if a positive change has to be realized.

Question 2

Each generation has had their types of foods favorite and characteristic to them. many years. The millennials have a lot of information on diet and health related issues and are less likely to eat foods that are junky as compared to the other generations. In the family, little can be differentiated between the parents and grandparents; they tend to have similar preferences, tastes, and craving. Though they have significantly changed their diets, during their times they relied more on convenient and take homes foods. The same is the case with millennials except that they make better choices.

Question 3

How people eat and the perceptions of what they eat has the same effect as the types of food they eat. Irregular consumption of refined foods results in taking in excess fats and calories at a go. Most people would skip a meal for a snack because they do not have time to get the meal. However, they end up getting excess calories, fats, and carbohydrates leading to weight and obesity. Packaged foods may be a solution to busy schedules but they are also responsible for weight gain and health related complications.

Question 4

The erosion of culture has contributed to the omnivores' dilemma. Prior to the erosion and when there was no food processing, people ate what was available in their regions. Their diets were mainly made of the foods that they produce in their localities. It was easier to choose what to eat during a dinner meal than it is today. Food processing and preservation has brought about food varieties and people have a wide range to choose from. Today, there is no particular food native to a region as the places are filled up with all kinds of foods. People have problems choosing from the varieties available as they are no longer influenced by culture but trends, finances, and convenience.
