Demographic data

The research will be conducted at Miami Central High School in the United States (Miami, FL). The research will mainly concentrate on 10th grade students from the school population and how many of them have mobile devices. A survey will be conducted to determine the 10th grade student’s perception towards the use of mobile devices within the school environment and their impacts on their learning outcomes. Class evaluations will be conducted in all 10th grade classes to collect self-evaluation data. From this demographic, descriptive statistics will provide a clear understanding of the context and culture of 10th graders at Miami Central High School. Descriptive statistics will be analyzed to study the trends and variations in using mobile devices among the 10th grade population. Through descriptive analysis the researchers will be able to analyze the samples of study which are aimed at identifying the effects of mobile device on students’ engagement. 

Target group

The target group for this research is high school students and their teachers. 10th grade students from Miami Central High School will be used as the sample for the study; results outcome from the study will be used to analyze the trends and variations on the impact of mobile devices on students’ engagement. The content focus of this research study will benefit high school students and their teachers as it will reveal how mobile devices impact teaching and learning. In addition to this, the content of focus for this study is relevant in the current society where technological advancements have had significant impact in every area of people’s lives. Thus, integrating mobile devices in learning and teaching may have significant impacts on the learning and teaching methods that are used. Consequently, the use of mobile devices in the school setting may affect the academic achievement of learners and the teaching approaches used by their instructors. Through technological improvements, new features are being included in mobile devices; thus, improving what they can do in content delivery and their ability to influence learning outcomes. On the other hand, the study will also provide comprehensive data on how teachers and students can use mobile devices to enhance the learning and teaching experience in school settings.

At least 75% of students in the United States use mobile devices within and outside the school setting. This shows that the use of mobile devices among students is rather popular and may have significant effects on their level of engagement. Thus, introducing mobile devices as part of the learning and teaching process in education can lead to positive outcomes. The level of mobile device usage that currently exists among students shows that most of them have already familiarized themselves on how to utilize the devices. As a result, introducing mobile devices as part of learning in the school setting may positively influence the learning outcome among learners. Furthermore, the rapid technological advancements in the modern day society encourage the use of mobile devices as a way of improving the educational experience among students. A study conducted by Hoekstra (2008), reveals that students and instructors are increasingly becoming conversant with the use of digital devices in the classroom. The availability of affordable mobile devices has made it easier for teachers and students to access mobile devices and integrate them into their daily lives.
