The story of Ms. Saks evoked compassion and sympathy. Dealing with the fact that she is mentally ill and has encountered numerous challenges due to the condition made me feel that a mentally ill person should not be blamed for the disease because it is beyond the person’s control. It is inappropriate to use physical restraint to calm down or limit the movement of a person experiencing symptoms such as psychosis. Mentally ill people are not criminals, and it is not their fault that they are mentally sick. Instead, they should be handled gently, just like any other sick person. This emotional experience will guide how I see and treat people with mental illness in various ways. Patients with mental illness will be handled with a lot of compassion. Also, they will be offered support so that they are able to manage their illness. In addition, they will not be blamed for their actions when ill or discriminated against because of their mental illness.

Several lessons were learned from Ms. Saks’ story. Support is vital for people with mental illness. According to Ms. Saks, the support she received from her family and her workplace place was instrumental in helping her deal with her condition. Physical restraint on people with mental conditions because of symptoms such as psychosis should not be used. It may cause them harm and, in some severe situations, death. It is essential to show the mentally ill empathy and compassion when dealing with them. Mental health stigma may affect those served in the social work field. They might have negative attitudes towards people with mental illness. This might cause them to discriminate against people with psychiatric disorders. Stereotypes about people with mental illness are common in society.
