Emotional and Social Development in Adolescence

Generally, the risk for depression develops at adolescence for both sexes that is boys and girls. However, studies have continued to show that girls are more likely to be depressed than boys. The risk factors that are associated with depression include genetic, emotional, biological, cognitive, behavioral and social-interpersonal. Most of the research has proven that it is most unfortunate that most of these factors are common in girls ( Levine, 2017 ). The reason as to why girls are at high risk of depressions is because of their interpersonal stress and low self-esteem which increases their risk for depression. 

Studies have proven that suicide is the third leading cause of death in many parts of the world. Most of those who commit suicide were reported to be males of ages between 15 to 19 years old. It is during this time of adolescence that sexual identity is defined where the need for relationships and independence usually conflicts the rules and regulations that have been set for others ( Levine, 2017 ). Boys are considered to be more aggressive at this stage, and they tend to be more likely to bully and harass one another which later creates psychological disorder especially depression and drug abuse. These factors are the ones that increase the risk of suicide among adolescent boys. 

When it comes to ways of addressing the issue of morality, I prefer the pragmatic way or approach because it involves solving a problem in a sensible way that favors the conditions that exist now or at that particular time. Studies have proven that it will be more effective if a problem is solved in consideration of the situations that are existing and not drawing ideas or solutions from the past.
