The social and emotional development of a person is influenced by many factors even in adulthood. Factors such as work and interpersonal relationships have a way of directly affecting the emotions and the social status of an individual on a daily basis. Most adults spend most of their time in the workplace; consequently, their social and emotional behavior is affected by the working environment and the people they relate with in the workplace. On the other hand, having interpersonal relationships with other people; especially of the opposite sex also has other ways of affecting the development of an adult either socially or emotionally. Therefore, for an adult person, it is necessary that one establishes these relationships to help them manage their emotions in an all-round manner.

Most people are always free sharing their problems especially personal or work-related issues with people they trust and in most cases of the opposite sex. It is, therefore, worthy that an individual should have a trusted ally with whom they can confide their secrets and stress issues. By sharing these issues one not only relieves themselves of stress, but it also helps them to build their confidence and puts them in a state of well-being. Relationships with a person of the opposite sex also help build a strong emotional approach to issues besides making one socially active. It takes away the fears and possibilities of rejection, harassment, and teasing from friends and colleagues and the feeling of isolation and lack of intimacy.

Cohabitation in the current world could be the first union of most women who ultimately desire to get married, but before a couple decides to cohabit, they should ask the following questions and weigh if their relationship will transform into a marriage. Why should they cohabit when they can just get married? Do Wanda’s desired goals in the cohabitation rhyme with Scott’s expectations in the end? What lessons do they expect to learn from cohabiting? What if they get children? How about their responsibilities like house bills. How do they balance them while they are not married yet? Do they have shared values like family size, finances, religion, and other values? It may also be important to answer the question of if they really want to live together and into the future.
