The need to learn and understand as a secondary language has raised different ideas on which language to learn and why to study the respective language. In this essay, my argument is based on the fact that English is the best language that should be considered as the second language worth learning. Supporting the argument, the paper presents numerous benefits of studying English as a second language. The paper will reflect on the current education systems and increased diversity that raises the need to study a second language. Most students enroll in the education system with knowledge and ability to express themselves using their native language. Nevertheless, there are numerous factors that induce the need to study a second language. Therefore, this argumentative paper gives an answer to a confusing question on which language to consider learning as a second language.
The current state of increased cultural diversity has led to increased interactions in the existing population. In this case, students from different cultural backgrounds, races, and nations are concentrated in classrooms for the purpose of attaining education (Day et. al, 1998). These students have different native languages that establish a barrier to their social life. In return, the need to have a common language that will facilitate effective communication in the classrooms rises and English effectively fits the gap. Most publications used in the teaching activities are written in English (Celce-Murcia, 1991). Also, numerous research materials are written in English. Therefore, for the students to understand the concepts presented in the classrooms, they will need to understand the language used while teaching the respective concepts hence raising the need to study English.

Additionally, English is a language employed in every career after education. For instance, careers in sciences, tourism, medicine and piloting among others rely on English as the common language for communication. Therefore, learning the language as early as possible will always prepare the students for their future careers (Cook, 2016). Furthermore, most of the organizations are integrating cultural diversity in their work environments in order to improve their competitiveness. Consequently, learning English means that a student can comfortably fit in any work environment since he/she can speak and understand English as a common language.
Moreover, the current education system supports students from all over the world through the international education program. Consequently, when the students learn English, they develop the ability to fit in every school all over the world as long as English is considered a common language. Furthermore, learning English as a second language will always increase student’s confidence since they are able to interact and build their social life through using the language in their communication (Day et. al, 1998).
At times, learning a second language might be considered a threat to the native language where individuals feel it will destroy their descriptive culture. However, the current population has advanced both in developed and developing nations. In more than fifty nations, English is used as an official language. Therefore, learning English would be an added advantage for the students to fit in those nations. Moreover, learning English as a second language would prioritize students to work in multinationals distributed globally (Cook, 2016).
In conclusion, the question on which secondary language is worth studying today should have the English language as the first answer. This follows multiple advantages emanating from learning, speaking and understanding English as an additional language to the native language. Therefore, in the current education system, English should be prioritized as the best second language in order to equip the students for their careers and the competitive labor market. In consideration of the substantiality of the respective language, each student should learn English as the second language.
