Eric Carle who is an American writer and designer was born in Syracuse to immigrant parents that originate from Germany. At the age of six, Eric's parents returned to their homeland where he started school in a German school. Eric experienced strictness in the German schools compared to the American schools that did not have strict discipline. When growing up, Eric was passionate nature walks, and he loved spending most of his time with his father walking in nature parks and through the woods. During the nature walks, Eric learned to love and appreciate the nature based on stories and discoveries made. His love nature formed the basis of his inspiration where he got ideas that he expressed them as stories for the children. According to Eric, his ideas and thoughts are influenced by his experiences, feelings, and thoughts towards particular topics and issues within the society (Rouleau & Buchberg, 2017).

A majority of the books authored Eric indicates that he uses his thoughts and ideas based on the happenings and topics involving the day to day activities of individuals within a particular setting in a community. Additionally, Eric believes that most of his ideas originate from his character of fooling around and his love for nature. In his book “ The Very Hungry Caterpillar ” the author did focus on his thoughts and idea concerning the development of such a story to enable learners to have a thrilling experience while reading the story (Rouleau & Buchberg, 2017). To ensure that the children understand the stories, he implements the use of imagery in order to create a mental picture that helps in depicting the true nature of the elements mentioned within the story. However, Eric believes that to make a book attractive to the intended audience, an author needs to work with the editors to ensure revision of the written works and focus on the appropriateness of the content to the intended audience.
