One current ethical rule regarding research is confidentiality. The rule stipulates that all the participants' information as data for the investigation should not be disclosed to a third party. Before starting the investigation, there is a need to inform the participant on the nature of the information collected and the purpose for which the information will be used after the research. Another rule is that of intellectual property. The rule resolves the issue of disagreement on who should get credit for the research (Smith, 2013). Prisoners are protected because many people view them as not having the right to decide for themselves. The reason for collecting the information should also be stated. Thus, in any research, the participants should be willing to participate in the investigation and not be forced. Those who wish to leave the study even after it has started to have the liberty to do so because of informed consent.

No-humans such as animals are protected but differently. The main concern for the non-humans is to prevent their extinction and random killing (Spielman, 2017).
