Apart from the interpersonal skills, there are communication skills. For excellent communication to exist, there should be elements of effectiveness in the entire process of communication starting from the sender to the receiver. Also, the communicator should be in a position to interrelate and have a good command of other forms of communications such as face-face, written communication, online conversations. It should be remembered that with poor communication skills the communicator is unlikely to effectively and efficiently operate in a working environment.

According to the score from the communication quiz, there is an aspect which should be considered for rectification in my communication. The issue of self-expression has been found to be one of the significant challenges in my communication endeavors. Besides, my reception and interpretation of the information are in jeopardy as I do not accurately interpret the messages received correctly. Therefore, I need to have more learning when it comes to self-expression as well as putting more emphasis on the interpretation of the signals received.

I have a weakness in written communication in which there is the error of omission in some of my emails. This is one of the fields I should be working on as it can create confusion in the professional field especially the relations between the employees and even the employer. I often find it difficult to open up about the challenges I undergo in the working environment. In most instances, I keep to myself when caught up in a situation which I cannot handle. It can be prudent if I share my problems with my colleagues. It is likely to promote my learning experience and enhance my communication skills as well as interpersonal skills of self-confidence. I often find myself worried in realizing that people perceive what I say differently as I assume that it will be solved in later hours. This is another area where I should work on as it is likely to challenge the relationship with my colleagues.

I should work on my interpersonal skill as pertains to my designing the way I should convey my message. In most cases, I do not give much regard to my communication before I send it to other people as I consider the discussion perfect. In most occasions, I do not consider cultural barriers in my communication.

There are some aspects of communication skills that I have learned at a personal level. One of the skills I have learned is listening as I give attention to the things people say. In many occasions, I tend to avoid as much as possible the interruptions caused by individuals or any communication barriers such as absent-mindedness. Another aspect which defines me in communication is the confidence I exhibit when interacting with people especially at the personal level. Most of my learning has been on written communication. With time, I have reduced the use of jargon in most of my writings. I often use correct punctuation and ensure a good flow of grammar. Besides, I have worked on the tone, attitude and other subtleties of my statements.

There is a lot of insight in preparation for a given communication process especially the spoken one. At first, I faced challenges in expressing myself before people as I had inadequate preparation before going for the presentation. However, with time I practiced this skill in person in which I ensured that I understand what I want to say before saying it. Further, I learned the excellent use of the non-verbal cues. These aspects of non-verbal cues are vital as they enable the communication to reach the audience effectively.

Another element of interpersonal communication skills that I have learned is the idea of being personable. It is more applicable in face to face communication in which I have developed a friendly tone when communicating with others. It should be learned that there are advantages which are associated with being personable. Giving and receiving feedback is essential in communication skills. It is one of the fields which many people ignore in their communication endeavors. I faced the same challenges as a thought it unimportant. I have so far practiced this aspect of communication by giving people praise whenever they do excellent work.

There are aspects I am planning to implement with the aim of improving my communication skills. These aspects include listening, written communication and cultural sensitivity in the process of communication. There are strategies put in place to ensure that the implementation of these aspects is achieved. Starting with written communication, I will write for self-appeal in which I guarantee that what I write is perceived as per my intention. In the process of writing, there will be a review of what is put down on paper or through the electronic media. Another strategy for written communication is to ensure that there are proper grammar and correct punctuation.

The aspect of listening is another valuable tool which needs the employment of strategies to ensure its efficiency. Some of the procedures applied, in this case, entail emphatic listening in which there is decoding of the information and messages accurately. For the information to reach one in an appropriate way it is essential that one puts into consideration the emotional bit. Apart from that, there is a need to read the body language of the person speaking. As part of the strategy to ensure that there is good listening, I will work on the keenness to interpret the feedback communicated and the non-sound aspects such as body language. The emphasis will be on the gesture, facial expression and the body posture of the person in the communication process.

The last strategy will be applied to the cultural context whereby all the communication barriers arising from the cultural context will be identified in advance. As part of the strategy, the people who are familiar with these barriers will be contacted in advance. Upon the identification of the misunderstandings, and miscommunications research will follow to help in the best way to solve the problems. Again they will be carried out to give familiarity with the expected challenges which may arise.

Conclusion

In summary, communication aspects are very crucial in informing the interpersonal relationship in the work environment and everyday activities. Therefore, it is appropriate for one to have a full mastery of these aspects to enable efficient and effective interaction with other people.
