"iCitizen App" is a feminist invention designed to help Americans air their political views to their elected representatives regarding issues affecting them. The app advocates democracy for women by allowing women to track their rights as important issues in society ( Thorpe, 2015 ). The app also helps give updates on new laws and provide a platform for encouraging or protesting against politicians. An effective technology designed for everybody or women specifically requires designers to construct a gender script for products which draws on the representation of the intended target group for the product. Such description includes how the product is used, by whom and for what purpose. The design, therefore, may incorporate participation gender stereotype and the “I” methodology.
Faulkner denotes that the continuous association of masculinity with technology has resulted in male dominance in technology. Women do not venture into computer science and technology for fear that if they work closely with the tech they would be detaching themselves from the social world resulting in gender inauthenticity. The iCitizen app, however, has proved to be useful in helping engage citizens with a local representative on issues that affect women and the rights that women possess.
