Learners whether with or without exceptionalities present a set of similarities and differences. When it comes to similarities, all of them are capable of achieving their set goals with guidance from their teachers. However, according to Steen et al. 2012), learners with exceptionalities require more time, patience and specific learning resources as compared to learners without exceptionalities. The reason for this is the fact that they exhibit separate behavioral issues and developmental delays. As such, their reading and comprehension levels are different from those of learners without exceptionalities.

2. What are some characteristics of various exceptionalities and the educational implications for students with exceptionalities?
Students with exceptionalities tend to present a set of behaviors which is different from learners without exceptionalities. More so they have a lower level of comprehension. As such they are in need of specialized assistance to help them cope with academic demands.
3. What is the effect exceptionality can have on a student's academic and social development, attitudes, interests, and values?
Exceptionalities in leaners have varied effects on their academic and social development. Exceptional learners may be withdrawn from their peers as they feel that they do not belong in the same mental arena unless the teacher ensures inclusive learning. More so, learners with physical disabilities may be locked out of exploring their interests, talents, and abilities.
4. How do you collaborate with general education teachers?
I collaborate with them through team meetings, ARD meetings for professional development as well as having casual discussions on how to present the material in a grade level way but at a comprehension level for those students.
5. In what ways do you address the unique learning needs of the individuals with exceptionalities in the classroom, including for those students with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds?
I address these unique learning needs by offering modification or accommodations when needed for success. More so I take it upon myself to understand these learners regarding what their differences mean to their academic achievement. From here can develop learning materials that address their learning needs more efficiently. Also, I rally up for any additional support that could be offered by the district and parents or medical professionals.
6. How do you protect the privacy of students with exceptionalities? What are some dilemmas you have experienced with this?
I include a confidentiality statement for every email, and I keep an IEP paperwork in a locked secure place. More so I hold discussions with a student with exceptionalities in a closed-door setting. However, it is hard to do this regularly since I have a huge class that requires my undivided attention.
How I will use the findings in my future professional practice
Having understood the nature of learners with exceptionalities, I plan to embrace some strategies meant to differentiate instruction based on such learning differences. According to Karten (2015), there is need to adopt various strategies while it comes to enhancing inclusivity in the learning institutions. Some of the strategies I will embrace include using a step-by-step approach which will consist of teaching content in bits as well as emphasize on practice and repetition. More so I will deal with my learners as individuals not as a class to ensure that I attend to every learner.
