Is it Ethically Responsible to Engineer Plants?

Genetic engineering of plants in the few years has been discussed with various controversial views that have developed significant interventions from both farmers and scientists. Some studies claim that genetically modified plants may be safe, but they lately links to an increase in the development of specific allergies in humans (Devi et al., 2019). In other words, science has proven that genetically modified flood-resistant rice has lower levels of food nutrients that may protect individuals against contagious disease.

The Difference Whether They Are Geared Towards First or Third World Countries

There is no difference in regards to the safety of environmental biodiversity. Devi et al. (2019), argues that in the first world and third world countries, local farmers experience long-term effects. Most of the countries, including the Philippines, had destroyed the genetically modified flood-resistant rice when the experimental fields were ravaged.

If They Will Help in the Effort of Feeding the Ever-Growing World Population

The United Nations has focused on a significant rise in the world population in the coming years. Due to climate change, a significant threat is likely to be experienced in regards to the areas where non-modified plants are currently cultivated. Because of the situation, feeding a more extensive population remains a challenge, and therefore, the concern about whether genetically modified plants would help in solving the problem (Devi et al., 2019). The world population would be fed because of the quantity results but not because of their nutritional quality. It, therefore, becomes a topic of concern on the type of genetically modified plant necessary for providing nutrients across a larger population. For instance, lack of Vitamin A is a major cause of over 250,000 deaths, and a solution to this may be a genetically modified "Golden Rice." Flood-resistant rice is a way of accomplishing climate change or weather alterations that may arise in a given population.
