Gay couples can be good foster parents for many reasons. The first one is that studies have shown that same-sex adoptive parents are six times likely to raise foster children than heterosexual parents. This means that this would save a country the cost of fostering children by passing the expenditure to encourage parents. There is also the issue of empathy whereby gay parents are likely to show more compassion to children than heterosexual parents. This is because many children who are raised in heterosexual relationships experience more traumatizing experiences compared to those that are raised by gay parents.

Opposite sex parents are more likely to make children feel abandoned and neglected at one time during marriage than when gay parents raise foster children. Children that feel neglected by their heterosexual parents often feel different from their friends who are from a typical family. Contrastingly, gay parents can always emphasize with their adopted children that differences are not a bad thing and treat them as special children. Gay parents can show their adopted children that a knit-family union does not have to be the kind that involves a mom-and-dad relationship.

There are also children in foster care systems that are LGBT individuals. These children feel even more lost when they are interacting with heterosexual peers. Studies have shown that most children from foster homes are misunderstood because of their homosexual preferences. Also, they are in desperate need of homes that can treat them as being a part of the family. This is why they stand the best chance of getting proper parenting if they are raised by gay couples. These reasons show that gay couples can be more supportive and loving than heterosexual parents.
