Sheryl WuDunn’s work highlights gender inequality by focusing on the injustice girls and women face around the world. As much as women account for about 49 percent of the world’s population, WuDunn indicates that women in poorer countries face bad living conditions and social constructs which cut short their lives. According to her talk, the challenges that women face include unequal educational opportunity, high maternal mortality rates, sex trafficking, and unequal economic empowerment of women. Apart from improving the conditions of their families and societies, they can improve the economy of their countries and further help other women in the society. I also believe that empowering women enables them to live safe, fulfilled, and productive lives.

Different countries can overcome gender inequality by empowering women. Women should be empowered through education and economic opportunity. Providing education to women has been linked to better outcomes in their families. Educated women can improve public services such as water and sanitation and also improves the health of their children. More so, giving them economic opportunities enables them to be independent and help other women in society. Empowering women also reduces cases of anti-social behavior and violence in society. Countries that reinforce gender equality are more connected and their citizens are healthier and have better lives.
