The media technology has played a crucial role in shaping the character of both boys and girls. Research has it that teenagers spend most of the time watching music, televisions, magazine and using the internet. The information from these platforms affects their daily lives. It has also been noticed that girls are the most influenced by such platforms as they are depicted in a manner that suggests that they are intellectually underappreciated. What matters to people is the woman’s body but not what their intellectual prowess can do to change the society. On the contrary, even though the boys are affected by media technology, they are elevated above the level of their female counterparts. They are depicted to be superior, and people believe that this thought was genetically predetermined. The media technology affects girls the most as it may create standards that lower their confidence, self-esteem, ambition and academic performances. The field of advertisements is also responsible for promoting gender inequalities and sexism. Women no longer feel represented by advertisements even though they are key contributors to the buying decisions. The stereotype created in an advertisement that promotes inequality is that men are preferred in advertisements in leadership and managerial positions. On the other hand, women are involved in advertisements that take advantage of their bodies to market a product.
As a female, I believe that there are no roles that define a girl or a boy. I believe that both males and females have got equal opportunities and that is why I try as much as possible to engage in leadership positions to show that females can also flourish in positions of influence. The only gender roles that I believe are meant for males are those that demand physical strength which cannot be done by females due to our nature. What has shaped my gender identification include my dressing, association with people, physical appearance, and behavior.
