The promise of a proper healthy future seems to dimmer with the continuous shifts in political and economic systems. The global public health in its context seeks to address the various challenges and solutions that general health and social justice and environmental sustainability influences with the goal of improving health in the society. The video relates with the information in Chapters 1 and 2of the book “ Global Public Health: Ecological Foundations ” in its address on the key ways of dealing with issues pertaining to health matters and their relation to the environment. The video illustrates the beginning of key environmental pollutions in the cities it covers and elaborates the transformation of these aspects into the current world and how they stand to influence the future ( CSUGlobal MultimediaTeam., 2017) . It further elaborates the key things that stand as challenges in dealing with the health issues facing the study communities and the likely effect of such going into the future.

Relation of the Episode to Chapters 1 and 2 of textbook

Chapter 1 of the textbook discusses the history, aims as well as the methods of public health. It looks at all that conceives and comprises the health of the people in a society. In this regard, the episode of the video does well to highlight the various reasons leading to deterioration of the environment hence the health of people in the focussed cities of studies ( White et al., 2013) . The video episode suggests that poor planning leads to health hazards and such is evident in Elgin, Illinois after the collapse of the watch manufacturing company. The community failed to find ways of rebuilding the society and amidst the mess of trying to reconstruct their city ended up with poor planning schemes that make it difficult for people to access healthy ways of life. Chapter 2 of the textbook talks of the scientific basis of the public health and does well to relate the various pollutions of the environment to some of the illnesses people experience ( White et al., 2013) .

The video episode does the same thing because it relates asthma and diabetes to the environment. According to Dr. Richard Jackson, air pollution is primary in causing and furthering asthma in children. The video shows parents struggling with their children who have difficulties in breathing especially in areas that are air polluted. In the Onondaga city where the Onondaga lake is infested with mercury due to industrial waste dumping into it, it is acknowledged that the water is dangerous to both the human beings and other creatures. It is particularly dangerous to pregnant women and children to consume anything that comes from the lake such as the water itself or the fish in the lake ( CSUGlobal MultimediaTeam., 2017) . In Syracuse, New York, people have difficulties accessing medical centres because of the design of the city after its economic collapse in the 80s ( CSUGlobal MultimediaTeam., 2017) . Therefore, people have to walk long miles to reach the medical centre and get treatment. The area has one grocery store selling fresh raw products that are healthy for consumption rendering many people inaccessible to healthy food products.

Critique of Information

The information delivered by the video is valid and tangible considering it shows real relations of the environment and people in real cities. The video shows students researching on key attributes of the environmental hazards in relation to the obesity in the area and the manner in which protecting the environment will help solve such problems. However, the information provided lacks proper scientific backing with data in accordance to research and proven facts. It thus seems to be speculative and thus cannot exactly pinpoint the health problems in the various cities to the environmental challenges it discusses. The information given does not trace to any tangible data collected after a careful analysis and research in relation to the theory that the environmental aspects discussed could be the reason for the poor health status in the areas. Despite the above fault, the video does well to show the logic behind its perception that the historical and continuous generational activities affect the poor health in these areas.

Information on Public Health Problems

The video details asthma as a result of air pollution and how it difficult it is to be treated in a setting that is poorly planned and structured. It does well to illustrate a number of parents with children suffering from asthma detailing on how he attacks began and how often they are triggered when the patient is exposed to air. One parent is asked what she would want people to do in order for her son to be fine and she says that people should take care of the air. In this regard, the video suggests that people need to take care of the environment in order to handle issues pertaining to health problems in the society. According to Thomas Littlefield, water treatment is imperative in reducing illnesses and it is important that water is treated in large masses to provide quality health to persons ( CSUGlobal MultimediaTeam. , 2017 ).The information suggests that communities do not do a lot to promote their health because they do not concern themselves with healthy living and maintaining a clean and healthy environment. The Elgin high school students conduct a six month research and invite people to their venue for a presentation on matters concerning the environmental effects on health but only three people attend ( CSUGlobal MultimediaTeam., 2017) . The attendance is a clear indication of the neglect people have for matters and information regarding such issues.

Information missing

The video misses key data based on scientific proof that shows dates of triggers for the asthmatic patients in relation to the environment or rather air pollution. It fails numbers and key data showing how the planning and structure of the Syracuse area influences healthcare accessibility and remains speculative on the information.

Conclusion

Episode 2 of “Designing Healthy Communities” talks of how the environment affects the health of people today and in their various settings. The video studies generational causes of health problems and the means to address such. It is important to approach health issues with respect to their possible causes and determine means of ensuring the problems are solved. The surrounding has a key and direct influence on the health of people and there is need for proper planning and structuring of cities and areas so that people can manage healthy lifestyles. Moreover, it is crucial that people need to check into generational practices that ensure safety of their surroundings and promote healthy styles of life.
