Globalization refers to the global integration of trade, information, technology, investment, and culture. Through globalization, governments, companies, and people get to interact hence affecting the environment, political systems, economic development, and culture. World politics, on the other hand, assesses the political and economic patterns at the global scale. Understanding global politics would require the appreciation of several factors including the relationship between countries, multinational corporations, the non-governmental organizations, among other global organizations. It also involves the study of other sociopolitical factors such as democracy, diversity, peace and stability, and the environment among others. Therefore, globalization in world politics attempts to assess how various sociopolitical and economic tenets have attained a global scale through globalization.

Traditionally, politics has been carried out within the national context. National governments of respective countries have played a critical role in maintaining the economic welfare including the security of its citizens. Baylis, Smith, and Owens (2017) illustrated that other functions that the national governments have managed to carry out include the protection of human rights, environmental conservation, and the management of trade and commerce. However, several factors such as ecological changes, integration of global economy, and increasing global economy, political trends and activities are taking a more global scale. Thanks to globalization, politics has surpassed the borders of the states and countries through the integration of politics and also as a result of schemes such as intergovernmental organizations. Examples of international organizations that have played a role in facilitating globalization in world politics include the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Trade Organization (WTO), the World Bank, and the European Union amongst others. Political activity can also cross the border of a state through the help of global movements such as the Non-governmental Organizations (NGO). Furthermore, globalization in world politics has found much success through the use of civil society organizations which function by forming alliances with other organizations based in other countries, taking advantage of the global communications system, and lobbying and rallying the international organization and other actors to assist their cause.

In discussing globalization in world politics, more emphasis is usually put on the role of the international organizations. Through their power of conflict resolution, mediation, sanctioning, and peacekeeping, they influence several factors that happen at the global political stage. The world bodies influence factors such as monetary policies and global health policies among others. The rationale behind using the international agencies to influence world politics includes the fact that many countries preferred delegating authority in matters that require a high level of knowledge, information, resources, and expertise which might not be available at a particular time. The international organizations have two essential characteristics that include they enjoy the centralization of power and they also have autonomy to decision making. Therefore, these two attributes make the international bodies to have the prerequisite to influence world politics. Also, their activities, irrespective of their influence carry legitimacy in their country of action. Such legitimacy is always achieved when the member states and countries commit to the organizations through appending their signatures to various treaties.

The coming together of nationals and the subsequent globalization of politics came about because the global community was becoming increasingly cognizant of global issues that affect the various communities across the world. Understanding the global matters provides a platform on which world politics could be globalized. Global issues include the social, political, economic, and environmental problems that have a negative impact on the well-being of the worldwide community. The solutions to global problems can only come through integration and corporation of many nations. Security is one of the issues that bear political and social consequences to any country. The widespread discourse on terrorism can no longer be regarded as a national program because many nations in the country are not well-equipped to handle the problem. Social factors such as equity and fair distribution of resources are also issues that require a global outlook. Racism, ethnicity, and marginalization of various communities also remain problems that need corporation of countries in solving. The issue of healthcare tops the list of those issues that require an intergovernmental approach. Other factors include poverty, immigration, and trade among many others.

Globalization in world politics has come with advantages and disadvantages in equal measure. On the obvious benefit, globalizing politics through the creation of world bodies have helped in solving some of the major global issues affecting the world. For instance, the IMF and the World Bank have been on the forefront in lending developing countries funds in a bid to alleviate poverty. The United Nations (UN) on the other hand plays a critical role in peacekeeping and enhancing human rights in various countries. Luard (2016) intimated that globalization of politics could be vital in promoting democracy in countries which would ensure that governments serve the interests of the people. Furthermore, globalization in world politics has also enhanced corporation that has proved vital in formulating international policies and actions which function to solve the world problems. Also, globalizing world politics has empowered and given small nations an impetus to work together and thus gain more influence at the international platform. Governments can learn more from each other which is essential especially for the developing nations. Countries that would not have otherwise solved their issues benefit through aids. Also, globalizing world politics comes with several challenges that might prove harmful to the well-being of a nation.

Some of the challenges include sanctions that could come from non-compliance with global demands. McGrew and Lewis (2013) noted that when international bodies such as the UN infiltrate into the matters of a country, others could feel that their sovereignty has been jeopardized. Once a nation has committed to globalizing its politics, it ties itself to various international treaties and agreements which it must respect. Therefore, in carrying certain transactions, the country lacks autonomy because a unifying decision is required. In conclusion, globalization of world politics continues to take shape in the 21 st century as nations would want to be at the helm of the global community and enjoy the many benefits that come with it.

How Can Academics Help In Improving Marketing In Business Environment?

The business environment consists of the microenvironment and the macroenvironment parts. The business environment consists of the internal and external factors which affect the operations of the business. For a company to succeed, it must have a strong marketing principle in its environment. Armstrong et al. (2015) asserted that marketing could be defined as a process of attracting potentials clients and customers to a particular product or service. It involves activities such as promoting, selling, researching, and distribution of the product. Academic research is helpful in the process of marketing because it gives the entrepreneurs an outlook of the market dynamics in a bid to target the right customers or clients.

Academic research can be utilized in two different areas of the area of marketing. First, it offers a great incentive in the primary research. In primary research, the entrepreneur will apply academic research skills in monitoring the effectiveness of the existing business practices, sales, communication tools, and the quality of services. The business person will also get a platform to assess the market competition by analyzing the business plans of the competitors. Academic skills can further be applied in secondary research. Here, the business person will collect the already published information to create a company database which will be vital in situation analysis. Through this, the company will have a platform for formulating strategies useful in benchmarking. Also, the business will be in a position to determine various market segments which a company should devote its energy towards targeting. Therefore, in general, academic research involves the collection of data to determine if a specific product or service will satisfy the customers. With effective market research backed with academic skills, the business will gain valuable information about the potential customers, demographics, economic shifts, the market trends, and the spending characteristics of the customers (Zikmund et al. 2013).

Academic research in the area of marketing cannot be underestimated. Many successful entrepreneurs enjoy the benefit of longevity due to market research which enables them to understand their targets, identify consumer problems, and establish the dynamics of the competitors. For instance, academic research emphasizes on data collection as the primary tenet in achieving information. Data collection strategies such as interviews, questionnaires, and observation among others offer the marketers critical data on the new and better ways of marketing their products. Applying academic principles in research is, therefore, the simplest way in which business people can maintain a competitive advantage and enabling them to capitalize on the available opportunities. Research can also be carried out at different stages of a business cycle from the time of launching and beyond. Academic research assists the entrepreneur to have a better understanding of not only the marketplace but also the best strategies the business can use in an attempt to meet their customers. It also assists them to segment the market and find valuable information for each group that would help it in achieving the best marketing strategies that guarantee maximum returns.

Some of the documents vital to the academic research process include published company report data, newspaper and government data, and existing surveys and studies. When a business begins in a new locality, it might decide to engage in a complete field study that adheres to the academic principles of research in an attempt to establish the factors that would enable it to understand the best way to access the customer through marketing. The most common marketing strategies include advertisement and promotion. However, it is through academic research that business can find better ways of reaching different populations. Research would help to inform the business how advertisements can target different people depending on their age, socioeconomic status, location, and culture. Sekaran and Bougie (2016) illustrated that companies such as Coca-Cola and Puma, through their academic research and tactical nous have been able to customize their marketing strategies to conform to the local culture and preferences of the people in various countries. Academic research will also enable the marketers to remain aware of the various trends used in marketing today. Social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube among others are becoming the contemporary platforms for marketing due to the number of people that can be accessed on such platforms. It is only through academic research that knowledge on this was possible.

In conclusion, academics play an essential role in the marketing process. Through the primary and secondary research process, the business person can access vital information that could assist them in making decisions regarding marketing. More emphasis should be put on teaching students, especially those taking business courses, basic research skills that would give them an opportunity to understand how to collect data and use it in making meaningful decisions. Lastly, it is through research that people will move from the traditional marketing areas such as magazines to the newer and more efficient platforms such as social media.
