This is a group formed to research about anger management. Anger has been a feeling that since the past has been negatively affecting the choices and decision making of many individuals. While anger may be perceived as a moment feeling in an individual, often, its impacts are great, raising the need to propose measures that positively work towards its management. This group is about how individuals can overcome anger, especially, on conflict resolution in counseling groups, by the use of effective measures that facilitate an amicable solution. This is an indication that our group will utilize counseling as a method of anger management. The focus of the counseling process is on anger management on individuals who are susceptible to anger situations. With the aid of our research about anger management, we shall be able to guide individuals on how effectively they can manage anger without causing any harm to the people around them.

Rationale and Purpose of Group 

Our group is valid because of its focus on one of the main problems that face society. This is an indication that through the findings of this group, we believe that we shall provide important findings that will positively impact society on the best ways of anger management. Therefore, the research about anger management is specifically designed to help society in solving domestic matters through anger management. This is a suggestion that our group will only collect data from individuals who are willing to participate in the research question. Thus, our group will fully follow the ethics and reservations of our target group, by upholding the basic norms of the surrounding society. Eligible participants are urged to feel free to ask important questions and we promise that our group shall positively answer the questions.

Objectives of Group 

This group is designed to benefit the target group as well as its members. This is an indication that despite researching to help the society, it will be aiming to equip its members with possible anger management skills for the future. One of the most significant objectives of the group towards its members comprises of the ability for them to manage anger in their later lifetime, through the skills that they will have obtained at the end of this research. The best ways that have been identified to ensure that members acquire possible skills is through engagement. Members are supposed to be part of the group in every stage of this research as a way of engagement. This will ensure that members research on conflict resolution as one of the identified areas that can be utilized to understand how counseling can be an effective way of anger management. Thus, every member is required to be active to gain from the group research. The lessons learned from the group’s findings will be effective for application in the daily lives of the members. This will include their personal lives, their peers and even family members; a clear implication that the skills are not limited to the individuals only, but they can use them to influence society. The following are some of the skills that members should acquire by the end of the research:

Positive approach. By the end of this research, the group members should have been equipped with the necessary skills in terms of a positive approach. This will involve viewing a problem from a neutral position as a way of solving it. Thus, it will reduce the chances of solving a problem from a one-sided view.

Decision making. This is a critical skill that is believed every member should have acquired by the end of our meetings in the group. The skill of decision making involves critical analysis of options available before choosing the ideal one. Considering the impact of decisions made in moments of anger, this skill will be significant in enabling members to make positive decisions.

Forgiveness. Anger management will not be successful if at the end of management individuals do not forgive each other. This group is designed to ensure that its members learn the proactive role played by the aspect of forgiveness in anger management. They will, therefore, have to acknowledge the impact of forgiveness as a critical aspect of successful anger management.

Rights and Expectations of Group Members 

The group will be accommodative and inclusive. It means that every member is eligible to contribute to the issues relating to the group activities. Each member has the right to request information about the group, especially where they might not have understood. Members are also expected to behave with decorum when in group meetings by avoiding distraction cases as well as engaging in meaningful discussions. This group will be guided by ethical considerations that we believe are very vital to shaping its activities. Members are, therefore, encouraged to ensure that they do not interfere with the group proceeding. A trustable relationship should, therefore, be established to aid cooperation between members, as one way of improving the productivity of the group (Tuckman & Jensen, 1977). Besides, the group offers equal access to essential services to every member. Members are urged to ensure that they consult the leadership of the group on matters that may need their intervention.

The group is founded on ethics, which means that every member is supposed to adhere to the basic ethics guiding the group. Every member is, therefore supposed to ensure that they conduct themselves in group sessions with high integrity. Integrity is vital in maintaining the positive image of the group. Professional competency is also advised as part of the ethical code of the group. The group will be based on professionalism especially when conducting and reviewing research findings. Objectivity and professional behavior should also be incorporated at the individual levels to provide an environment that fosters the effective running of the group. By considering the objectives of the group, it will be easy to stick by the ethical codes provided.

Group Leader Information 

Considering the vital engagement of this group, its leaders are supposed to show the high quality of leadership skills that include, prudent decision making, integrity, respect and be influencing. This is because the leadership mantle of the group will be responsible for handling the outcomes of the findings of the whole group. A responsible leader is therefore required to lead the group throughout all the sessions and until the end of the research. One of the recommended styles of leadership is a democratic style. This is because democratic leadership is accommodative and champions for inclusivity.

Under this kind of leadership, the leaders will allow equal participation of members that enhance the contribution of necessary ideas and information. Whereas there is the need to control the group, the group leadership under democratic style will direct its role in ensuring that the group conducts itself in agreeable manners as opposed to being dictatorial. The leaders are therefore urged to be responsible and have a positive influence on members. This is because the group members will be relying on the group leader for possible direction especially on matters concerning the group conduct.

Basic Group Rules 

The group is guided by some basic rules that are supposed to be upheld by every member. While all rules are designed to protect the interests of the group through its members, they are categorized into two groups. General rules are poised to ensure that they are observed by every member of the group. Personal consideration is critical when offering advice, an implication that counselors should observe the code of ethics with the individuals in question. In accordance with the American Counseling Association, counselors should observe six vital codes of ethics. Autonomy that comprises of rights to foster the will to control the direction of one’s life, nonmaleficence directs that counselors should avoid actions that cause harm while the code of justice focuses of fairness and equitability. The code of fidelity guides that counselors are supposed to honor commitments and keep promises, the code of veracity that focuses on truthfulness when dealing with others and finally the code of beneficence directs counselors to work for the good and benefit of the individual and the society, especially on mental health and well-being (American Counseling Association, 2014). On the second hand, specific rules are crafted to ensure that every member is guided at personal levels. The basic objective of the group rules is to ensure that it serves the rights of all participants without discrimination. The following are some of the rules that will guide members in attempts to achieve the goals of the group:

Members should be time conscious. This is a critical rule, which ensures that group sessions begin and end on provided time. Members are therefore expected to obtain the next day’s session schedule at the end of every meeting.

Members are cautioned against using inappropriate words in discussions. This includes the use of vulgar words towards a fellow member. In respect to the accommodative nature of our group, every member’s contribution during the group sessions is welcome but the use of appropriate words is important at all times.

Members are supposed to ensure they do not cause any unnecessary disturbance during the group session. Silence and concentration are urged unless they are allowed to contribute.

Pre-group Screening and Selection 

Every student can be a member of this group; however, some qualifications must be met by individual students before being allowed to be part of the group. Potential members are those who adhere to the group rules. Members are also allowed to join this group based on how they subscribe to the requirements of anger management. Students who cannot be members of this group include those who are not disciplined and thus may fail to uphold group rules. There are only two basics pre-screening methods of potential members. Firstly, potential members are given a questionnaire to fill. They are supposed to ensure they read and understand the requirements and rules of the group before signing as a proof of agreement. The second method is sitting for a test that requires answering questions that relate to anger management. Potential members should ensure that they score 75% on the provided questions about anger management.

Practical Consideration 

Practical considerations are important in ensuring that a group meets its objectives. The group will have to prepare to align with the requirements of the group interests. Some of the preparations will include members presenting their full information such as names, background and the roles they wish to play in the research. This will be necessary for ensuring that the group gets enough time to record and facilitate possible needs for each member. The meetings will be conducted during morning hours. 9 a.m. to 11 .a.m. has been considered as the best time for members to converge and converse on the objectives of the group. The overall duration of the meeting will last for three days. This will ensure that members are given enough time to acquire the necessary skills for anger management and conflict resolution from the group research. Members are therefore requested to fill a consent document that will be provided to them when they present their details to the individual who will be registering potential members.

Procedures Techniques and Group Theory 

The functioning of this group will be guided by its objectives. This means that it will adhere to the provided objectives, rules and guidelines whenever it conducts its operations. The standard agenda for each group meeting will be anger management. Under this agenda, the group meetings will be exploring anger management, especially in group counseling. Considering that the research is targeting individuals that often meet situations that require anger management, it can be concluded that it will fully incorporate the needs of our target population, which include confidentiality and privacy. It also means that the group will also abide by the code of ethics when handling involved individuals.

Person-centered group counseling has been identified as an effective theory that will be utilized by the group in its meetings. This is because the theory emphasizes on individual needs hence is suitable in ensuring that the group members get enough chances to offer their ideas on a certain issue. The rationale of choosing this group counseling theory includes its ability to create a favorable environment and a feeling of acceptance, it builds its trust on the inner resources of individuals and also, the leader is directed by the group members (Vassilopolous & Brouzos, 2012). Under the person-centered group counseling, the leadership is more submissive to the agreements of the group members. Considering our target population is comprised of group members that may need counseling as a result of anger during group meetings or any other situations, this theory is ideal to address their problems. According to Gottman, in attempts to find resolutions between upset individuals, there are various issues that will be apparent such as, complaints, and disputes (Gottman, 2012). The person-centered theory incorporates all the needs of angered individuals in its address. It considers all the ethical requirements of affected individuals while at the same time maintaining the objective of the group.

Group Topics 

Meeting 1. The topic will be specifically, on general concepts of anger management. Precisely in this topic, the skills of positive approach and decision making will be introduced and discussed. These skills are very essential and members are urged to apply them in daily lives.

Meeting 2. On the second meeting, the skills of positive approach and decision making will be explored and practiced. In this meeting, members will be guided on how to practice these key skills in anger management.

Meeting 3. In this meeting, the group shall review the topics from the previous meetings, and explore the skills that have been applied. Each member will also be given a platform to share what they have gained in the process. It will follow with the ways they will continue to embrace the skills beyond the meeting.

Evaluation and Method Follow Up 

The evaluation of this group will be accomplished through a 3 open-end question.

Members will, therefore, be urged to answer the three basic questions to determine the influence of the activity on them. The evaluation will also be an opportunity for the members to be encouraged to practice the learned skills in their future life. Members will be requested to evaluate the effectiveness of their leaders in the provided form at the end of the activity. Yes, the evaluation methods are objective, practical and relevant, especially for future references. This is because the evaluation results will be used for future activities to identify areas that may require improvements.
