How did Mr. Nellis use scaffolding in this situation? Be sure to define the term scaffolding.

Scaffolding is the technique used to encourage students toward understanding and gaining greater independence in the learning process. In this technique, teachers provide temporary support that is channeled in helping a student reach higher levels of understanding and acquiring of skills that they would not be able to acquire without assistance. Teachers do use various forms of instructional scaffolding in their practice; they use it to bridge learning gaps. The gaps between what the student has learned and what they are expected to know are the kind of bridges that are reduced. Scaffolding is an effective way of teaching children to participate in critical thinking and other skills. The teacher uses scaffolding by showing and telling Susan on what to do in order to acquire some skill. Mr. Nellis shows Susan on how to approach children when they are playing. The teacher shows Susan on how to do that by illustrating a one on one activity using a puppet. The following day the teacher tells Susan to try to emulate what she learned on about the previous day. The teacher uses scaffolding by using visual aids in illustrating the skill Susan need to acquire in order to join other children when playing and the visual aid is the puppet that the teacher uses to illustrate.
