The proposed Leviathan society is one that is ruled through a social contract made by the people, and the rule of the people by an absolute. According to this proposal, a society’s interests would be best achieved if the subjects of that society are guided by a social contract. The Leviathan argues for the development of a social contract that guides people’s actions and a rule with an absolute sovereign. According to Hobbes, civil war and the brute situation characterized by what he refers to as "the war of all against all") could be effectively prevented through developing and instituting a strong, undivided government. The people through a social contract should establish an absolute sovereign that should rule over them.
Largely, the society is trying to establish a socialist society where the people’s actions are judged by the social contract they entered into. It is a society where people’s actions and hindrances to those actions are determined by the social contract they develop with each other. The absolute sovereign through an absolute rule put by the people would ensure that the subjects tore the line of the social contract they made. The absolute sovereign would get to punish those who oppose the developed social contract and its values. Subjects would allow such an arrangement to protect themselves against having war with each other or being ruled as per the wishes of the people in power. Indeed, subjects who would want to protect the social contract they have made with each other would allow such a system (Sreedhar, 2010). In essence, such an arrangement would protect the subjects from the danger of fighting with each other due to the breach of social contract they established.
