Part A

The processes of ethical decision making include establishing all the facts in a situation by gathering data from all the sources. The next process is to gauge the situation to determine whether it involves ethical or legal issues. Identifying options, evaluating them, and choosing the most viable one is also a critical aspect.

The first step in solving Mrs. Boyer’s case is to listen to both sides presented by her children, then determine the nature of the case, which appears to be legal. The nurse should then forward the case to the relevant legal authorities.

The principle of justice can be applied in the sense that the relevant legal body considers the best cause of action for Mrs. Boyer’s health without being influenced by either of her kids. Autonomy could be applied, in the case, where Mrs. Boyer could be left to decide on her own, the cause of action she wants the nurse to take regarding her eating.

The 3 rd provision of the ANA Code of Ethics is critical in guiding the nurse to promote and protect the rights of the patient by acting impartially towards the patient’s treatment.

Part B

Pollution, as a current environmental concern impacts the local environment by causing diseases such as cholera in society. At a national level, pollution is a hazard in that it costs a lot of public resources to cater to environmental preservation. Globally pollution causes global warming.

At the community level, it is challenging to control pollution due to the skyrocketing numbers of industries which continue to dispense industrial waste. However, if these industries moved towards adopting the use of green energy, an opportunity to recycle waste would be created, limiting the amount of waste released into the environment.

Holistic nursing can be applied to address the issue of pollution in the sense that the nurse will be tasked with the responsibility of educating the patients. Mainly, on the impact of pollution on their health, and suggesting some of the mechanisms that can be put in place to reduce pollution once the patient goes back into society.

To impact the future of nursing, it is critical to adopt such holistic nursing measures as taking a mind-body-spirit-emotion-environment approach to nursing. This ensures that not only does the nurse offer medical services, but also communal intervention measures to prevent diseases.
