Identify your two selected countries and describe the GINI Index and average lifespan for each country.
The first country that I selected is Slovenia, whose GINI index was reported at 24.4 in 2016, according to a report by the World Bank regarding the development indicators. In the same year, the average lifespan at Slovenia was estimated to be 80.78 years. My second country of choice is South Africa, whose GINI index was 62.5 as at 2013. The average lifespan in South Africa was found to be 62.77 years in 2016.

Suggest possible reasons for the relationship between the GINI Index and average life expectancy for each country.
From the GINI index, it is evident that Slovenia has a high level of equality in terms of income while South Africa is pretty unequal. It is not surprising, therefore, that the effects of this equality/inequality eventually trickles down to the average lifespan, which is high in Slovenia and low in South Africa. Research shows a possible link between inequality and various health, economic and social trends. The expected lifespan of an individual is directly associated with their personal income. Countries where people have almost equally distributed income tend to exhibit longer lifespans compared to countries with unequal income distribution.
State how the information from your research is meaningful to you.
It was surprising to learn that the wholesome state of the nation tends to affect the nation’s overall lifespan. I initially thought that the length of an individual’s life is personal and not affected by what other people are earning. I have learned the concept of the GINI index, and how this is an indication of the wellbeing of a nation, and its expectancy in the long run.
