Horse rustling entails an individual targeting a specific horse to steal it. The individual has to find a halter and put it on the Horse, then find a way of undoing the latch before stealing. The rustlers might find a horse that already has a halter (Luckett, 2014). The rustlers’ major targets are feeding fields, horse sheds, and destinations for horse riders. In cases where the rustlers are caught, they normally express their need and interest to buy the horses with an indication of having been referred by from other people. Cattle rustlers operate through similar strategies as horse rustlers because they operate robbery cartels. In both instances, cattle and horse rustlers’ plans are well-coordinated and executed by individuals based on identified targets.

For a moving horse, the fastest way entails riding alongside an unsuspicious victim and jumping to his horse. Once the rustler manages to hijack the horse, he whistles to his horse for it follows him before he rides away. Another method is similar to an ordinary robbery advancement, where the rustler calls the stranger, stops them, and declares their robbery endeavor (Slatta, 1990). Some may ignore, flee, or engage in a shootout battle. The gunfire may spook the horse, so, the rustler would need to chase it and use a lasso to stop it by pulling it and attempting to calm it.

Contrary to horse rustling, cattle rustling is executed through perpetrations either by organized groups or an individual. It entails a personal plan or a plan by a group of individuals and coordination to steal livestock violently from grazing fields, property, or kraal for commercial purposes. The rustler can plan to engage in the robbery in the presence of the owner or organizing to steal livestock without the full knowledge of the owner (Murtala, 2018). In the owner’s presence, the rustler needs a gun and other scary means of endangering lives to evoke surrender. It may also be inevitable to murder the owner in instances of a shootout. The rustler will then release the livestock and lead them to a predetermined direction. Similarly, in grazing fields, the rustlers compel the owner to surrender, and drive the livestock to a predetermined direction.
