Recently, I learned that having anxiety is my body’s way of reacting to stress. I often find myself feeling nervous and/or fearful when about to give a speech or going for a job interview. Such feelings are normal under the circumstances. However, if they are extreme and last longer than half a year, then one may be suffering from anxiety disorder. I developed this disorder and found that it greatly interfered with my everyday living.
I also learned that there are different forms of anxiety disorders such as panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD, and even phobias. Whenever I would go for an interview or prior to giving a speech, I would feel restless and have increased heart rate. However, I sought help and learned how to deal with this particular disorder. Dealing with anxiety has changed my life in the sense that I have adopted a few approaches to develop a different association with my feelings and thoughts.

First and foremost, I acknowledged that I have a problem and chose to educate myself more about the condition. I also contacted a healthcare professional in an effort to better understand what was happening. Initially, I never used to do any exercising. However, following my anxiety disorder, taking regular exercise has so far helped my body to inherently produce a sense of well-being and greatly improve my moods. Furthermore, I have learned to have positive thoughts and not be too hard on myself.
In the course of my condition, I saw everything as an emergency and would greatly worry about almost everything. Making peace with time has allowed every panic and concern to wear itself out and come to an end. Taking deep breaths before giving a speech or going for an interview has also helped me feel more relaxed and not waste time worrying about the future.
