The presence of females in male stage roles has been historically dominant for example in Shakespeare’s theatre. Media plays a major role in creating social norms and gender roles within the industry. Females have opted to play these roles by choice. Again, in the film Shakespeare, most female roles were played by male figures. This was done to create stage beauty and challenge the audience expectations. However, women have long complained about taking their roles in certain films that have been greatly dominated by men.

Cross boundaries of culture should be viewed as a cross-cultural icon that helps bridge historical tensions between different regions and increases cultural diversity. The inter-cultural diversity is aimed at dialoguing and moving beyond the focus on the differences that exist among the people; cultural hybridization. Even with these efforts, crossing races has posed a great threat, because this role has not yet been fully adopted, hence few movies featuring African American characters.

The success of Hollywood movies can only be measured through positive changes in the culture where people of color are rendered insignificant. Black men feel inferior when their roles are performed by the white men, because of the order of human intelligence that suggests that only a black man can understand him and the make the best human contact with each other.

Asian men playing female characters are difficult because, their characters can be emotional, vibrant, subtle and powerful in a way that the men fail to achieve certain roles. Again, Asians are so protective of their culture, which makes them believe that gender roles should be adhered to avoid gender bias.

A female character could not play the role of Shakespeare in Hamlet because the play mainly suggests the dangers of women in politics and sovereign levels.
