The term and concept of schemas are related to pro-social behavior when a person chooses to perform a particular activity based on what he/she desires rather than focusing on their expectations. It will affect their pro-social behavior by directing one to have a specific self-belief about anything hence leading to a self-perpetuating idea. It relates differently to both boys and girls in that females seem to be more attentive to the happenings around them than the males. When an individual's self-behavior is regulated, it relates to their pro-social behavior because they will tend to view things from a different perspective.

How Might Schemas Affect Your “Motivated Self” Toward Being Prosocial or Not

Schema can affect my ‘Motivated Self’ towards being pro-social or not in that it will direct me to have an absolute belief. For instance, I tend to believe in helping the less privileged people in the society. No matter the contrary opinion I may seem to get around me, it will not hinder me from doing away with what makes me happy. On the other hand, I might also be unable to help when need be. Most people, for instance, believe that beggars are lazy folks who don't want to work but take advantage of other hardworking individuals. I come across them along the streets quite often, and that perception has stopped me from sharing what I have with them. The thought of being taken advantage of runs in my mind immediately I spot one. It may also affect me negatively by slowing down my interpersonal relationships. For example, I may tend to believe that I am shy, so I cannot be able to relate with other people openly. It will lead to loneliness since I will want to spend most of my time alone because I’m unable to socialize with my peers. Pro-socializing involves interacting with different kinds of people; I might not be able to achieve this.
